Lisbon: The World in a Nutshell
As I picked my place to go to this summer, I could not have chosen more right than Lisbon, Portugal. Lisbon has everything in its small and pittoresque town that the world has to offer in all its greatness. When I arrived I was astonished by all it's beauty and opportunities, something I'm starting to miss in Holland. I don't know if it's the sun but the town lights up with a yellow touch at night, leaving the streets never unattended by anyone. The city centre is lively during the day and turns into a streetdancing wal-halla at night. It is never boring and at every corner of the street you'll discover something new even if you've passed it a hundred times.
The sights in Lisbon are the finest you'll find together just in one city. For instance, the Elevador da Bica is in style and creater a younger brother of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and you'll notice the precision on the elevator is the same as on the tower.
The up and down streets remind you of little villages in France and England, and the color and shape of the houses remind you of the Middle-East and Mexico. And if that's not enough yet just wait until you've taken the train to Sintra, the nearby village. With it's '1001 nights' image it looks like a to good to be true fantasy town but hosts actually the most beautiful palaces in the world, the ones that brings places like old tsaristic Saint Petersburg or Amman (Jordan) into mind. When the city lights up in the evenings it's gets a more smaller and slightly rustic idea of Vegas. The neon lights and garlands hanging from the buildings are definitely present in the same amount as Vegas, only where in Vegas the parties are in fancy clubs and casinos, the party in Lisbon is on the streets with all their glory, hipshaking music and oldfashioned flair. In a word, if you ever have problems deciding where to go for a short amount of time when you want to see as much as possible, choose Lisbon. No regrets possible when you view the city from its many viewpoints still left over from the Moorisch war times and experience the way the locals live their life: not until 10 am in the morning and with the occasional sip of wine!
Lisbon is the best city in the world, its love and lights will not let you go easily!
