Springing Into Colorado

Garden of the Gods

I decided to visit Colorado for the 4th of July weekend, as this would be my 4th time to the state. Obviously one of the reasons for this visit is baseball, as I have to visit the Coors Field in Denver. But that will be later on, as I also plan to visit Rocky Mountain National Park and Colorado Springs (where I would meet up with a TBer).

I arrived into Denver, then picked up a rental car, and drove down to Colorado Springs. Along the way, is the scenic mountains, but a bit depressing to see more development. I did stop by a scenic overlook, to look at the Rocky Mountains, which was only the beginning. :)

I arrived into Colorado Springs, returning for the first time in 7 years (which you can read a summary about that visit, here).

A place that I've enjoyed visiting, and hoped to return. I even booked with the same hotel as before, the Howard Johnson. After taking care of that, I drove down Nevada Avenue, seeing if some of the places from before, are still there. And they were, although they did go through some changes.

I headed for the Garden of the Gods, and once I got there, I could see lightning in the distance, as a thunderstorm was approaching. It started to rain very hard, and I waited in the visitor center, until it passed. I did worry about the weather, since most of the places that I planned to visit, were outdoor attractions. But I was told by someone, that it is common for rain to come and go quickly in Colorado.

After the rain passed, I went into the Garden of the Gods. In this visit, I decided to walk around the red rock structures, and would see a lot more than what I saw back in 2002. I stayed on the paved trail, walking around the park.

It started to rain again, and I hurried back to the car.

I drove around the park for a bit, and this time skipped a section that had Balanced Rock, since I have seen it before in my previous trip. More about visiting this place itself in the review here.

Bad news is that I learned that the Colorado Springs Sky Sox game that I planned to go to, was sold out. I was hoping to buy a ticket at the window, without paying those ridiculous fees online. But since it was a fireworks game, it sold out quickly. Big mistake on my part.

After the Garden of the Gods, I went to Manitou Springs.
