Short story and photo collections of Ampera Bridge at night taken by a buddy Akbar during our visit to Palembang, the capital of South Sumatera.

The Bridge in The Dark - Musi River, South Sumatera

Ampera in my hands :)

South Sumatera was super hot!!! That was the only thing I could remember when I was about to go there again for work. I thought we had to go somewhere nice to enjoy the city. So after a long day of work, we decided to visit the Musi River (again, yes we also did it last time but it was a bit raining).

It’s honestly not a must see place during the day. I can find many of rivers alike in other places in Indonesia. But there is something special and famous about this river, it’s very wide and of course, its bridge at night!! Wonderful lights and the view from the bridge, you can see many floating restaurants along the riverside. The restaurants are very unique, with special designs to attract the tourists but don’t get too excited, they are pretty expensive !! Beside that, we could also see pretty busy traffic of boats crossing the river down below.

We tried one of the restaurants before, called The River Side, it’s a two floored floating restaurants using Tongkang (barge) Boat designed with colored lights and nice interior.

What so famous is that there’s an annual event which is held during our independence day (August 17), well-known as Lomba Bidar (Bidar race/competition) in which about 25 meters long and 0.75 meters wide boats are racing, in each boat there are around 50 oarsmen!! This race is from a legendary story of Dayang Merindu from South Sumatera.

An Old Hotel in Town
It is located in the central of the city Palembang, South Sumatera. An old hotel, surrounded by the old buildings (offices, etc), feels like being in an olf city =D

The location is pretty good as you can reach the mall and the banks easily, but as it is right at the main street - it is pretty noisy.

The room is ok, 4* standard hotel, clean, but old. The bathroom is pretty large with a shower and a bathtub. Breakfast is good, typical Indonesian food and some western.

I can't say pretty much right now, will post more pics from the swimming pool and the spa later =D

For the Meat Lovers
When you get to this traditional restaurant, you will find typical homie restaurants as in many places in Indonesia, located just in the main street with simple design just outside the owner's house.

They're specialized in Soup and Sate (Satay) of meat and lambs, with so much fat and spice, just as we love, lol! They also serve seafood which is pretty famous in the area and also chicken. for drinks, they only serve simple ones as ice tea or orange juice.

The place is not as interesting as the taste of its food! No wonder once we went there at night, we had to wait to get some seats!

But don't get to excited to order, the food is pretty expensive compared to standard price for food in kind of places, about USD 10 per person. But the price doesn't lie.

Satay specialist
This restaurant is very famous for its specialty, Sate or well-known in English as Satay, which is originally from Java.

It is a grilled dish of sliced chicken, beef and lamb using bamboo skewers, over a wood or charcoal fire. Of course smoke is around the restaurant with a strong smell. The dish is served with peanut sauce or soy-based dip with onion and cucumber, as your choice.

It is also normally serve with rice or rice cakes. Both are good, they will ask for your preference.

The sate taste very good, especially the lamb, when you need special skill to cook it well, and they do very well!

The place is just at the main street of Palembang, easily to find, more this place is so famous. And of course, as typical satay restaurant, there is no AC. So you can imagine after eating a full plate of satay in a hot city Palembang, you feel like rushing to leave.

It is pretty pricey for a street restaurant, but worth it though.
