Arrival in Guatemala

On Wednesday I woke up around 2:30a so that I would be ready to leave my house and meet the folks I was riding to Atlanta with by 4am. Since it takes me a little while to get going, I knew I'd need a LOT of coffee! We drove to ATL to hop on our direct flight to Guatemala City. Flight was fine, nothing special. After we landed, we were picked up by a "chicken bus" that we had reserved. A "chicken bus" is pretty much just an old school 70s school bus that has been painted and pimped out. Rides just like an old school bus, an even a little scarier given the way driving is in Guatemala. We had to travel 3 hours by bus to the town of Chichicastenango. Chichi is located in the highlands of Guatemala, so we had to go up and down mountains, on bumpy/hardly paved roads. But the views were outstanding. Guate is definitely the 'greenest' place I've ever visited. On the drive I saw volcanos, many many corn fields, mountains, you name it.
After finally arriving in Chichi we checked into our rooms at Hotel Santo Tomas (see review). We got settled in and then met for dinner downstairs at 7p. Dinner at the hotel is amazing and so fun (again, please see review). After such a long day of travels, it was nice to finally get to bed!
