The gang decided to go on a drive along the Great Ocean Road for Australia Day. We left at 8am to beat the tourist & long-weekend traffic. Our first stop was Lorne where broke down the long drive, we then proceeded to Apollo Bay
where we had fish & chips for lunch, we went to the beach to eat & had unwelcome guests trying to take some of our food - yup, you guessed it. SEAGULLS!!! After our well-deserved lunch, we continued on to Port Campbell
where the 12 Apostles are, took the usual pix and then went to our last stop, Loch Ard Gorge. Warning: this is not for the faint-hearted or for the unfit and most definitely not for the walking-impaired. You go down these steep stairs down the cliff face to reach the beach. Warning, this beach is not for swimming. Rough seas and there are rips. Loch Ard Gorge is known to have claimed a number of sailors back in the days, it's also famous for the number of shipwrecks in the area. The sand is really really REALLY soft, you practically sink. We spent an hour just relaxing there, playing footy before heading back to Melbourne. Note to others: when going back, take the in-land route which cuts off an hour from the journey. If you take the GOR, it'll be about 4 hours instead of 3 (inland through Colac).
