The Jungle
January 10, 2005
Manaus was our introduction to Brazil, and it was a budget-traveller's dream: huge steaming plates of food for next to nothing, bustling markets for buying fruit, vegetables, backpacks, hammocks - you name it, and even an ornate rubber-boom opera house. It was here that we also launched our "jungle trek," a 7-day semi-wild camping trip up the Rio Negro. We saw aggressive pink dolphins, really aggressive tarantulas, a deadly snake, a pack of wild boars, and a group of wanker monkeys. We also ran out of food and endured the constant joking of our 19 year old guide, Ney. Good times.
