Several years ago brothers Vinko and Mihovil Kajmak decided to make a pledge by their own. Their parents were natives of Posedarje, but spent most of their lives in northern Croatia, the nostalgia for home never ceasing. I don't know the whole story, but I remember the time the brothers first came to Posedarje, both already retired, and started creating their memorial for their parents.
To get to "Čelinka" (which means "the bold", like, "no hair"), at the shopping center take a left turn from the coastal road if coming from Zadar, or a right turn if coming from Zagreb. There's a little way mark, but not very noticable. Head on, and take the first turn right. This will take you to a dirt road, but after a while it gets asphalt again.
There are several things to admire at Kajmak's place (which is how the locals reffer to it). The brothers are usually there during the weekends and gladly welcome visitors. They'll show you around: the various sculptures, Vinko's wooden house entirely handmade, the garden, Mihovil's house with the amazing mosaic floor, and the chapel. The chapel is the actual pledge, built in memory of their parents. It's made of the area's natural materials - wood and stone, and every shape and carving is handmade. A truly awsome place! Children are very welcome, there's a playground and occasionally workshops for them as well.
The Kajmak brothers' artistic genes run in the family, so if you're lucky you'll meet their children and other artists, who occasionally organize gatherings to create art, or make music.
As I said before, the Kajmak family gladly receives visitors, but note that this is not a classic picnic spot. It's an entirely private property owned by the brothers. It's only their love for art and life that has given us this special place to enjoy.
