Swiss national day :-)
Basel, the art and architecture capital of Switzerland, August 1- 5, 2008
Visiting my long year friend Marina.
Both Dutch, but we’ve met in Switzerland in 1985, working in a small hotel in S-chanff, Engadin. I quit this job pretty soon and continued working in a hotel in St. Moritz.
After about 2,5 years I went back to the Netherlands, but Marina is still working in Switzerland (although since some years living in Germany, just a couple of kilometres from the Swiss border).
Although our life’s are very different we stayed in touch over all these years. We met every now and then. I went to Germany when she married, she came to The Netherlands for my husbands funeral. So we shared quite a bit, laughing and crying!
I drove to Steinen, Germany, on August 1th, 2008. The Swiss National Day.
We had dinner on the balcony listening the horn players on the alp.
Next day we went to Basel, only a short drive. Very nice (hot!) weather. We visited the beautiful ‘Rathaus’ (City hall) and ‘Münster’ (the Cathedral). We were lucky to attend a (free) concert of an English choir. Very nice.
Next day we visited the ‘Kunstmuseum Basel’(art museum) and one day later the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen (modern art).
Of course we spent the rest of the time chatting and having a good time shopping, laughing, eating, drinking and so on J
