24 hours in Vegas

My first trip to Las Vegas just happened to be a business trip. I was only there one night but it might have been the longest 24 hours I have ever experienced. It's amazing what you can fit into one day if you want. =)

24 hours in Vegas

Looking at the Wynn and Encore theaters. The Wynn theater is home to Le Reve. Danny Gans was supposed to perform in the Encore theater but unfortunately, he has passed so the theater is currently empty.
I guess I should start by saying this is my first time in Vegas and I was spoiled. I don't think my first Vegas experience was the typical first time in Vegas trip. Now I am going to have a hard time going on my own dollar. =)

We left Denver at 4:00 to catch our 6:00 pm flight out of DIA only to find our flight delayed 45 minutes. The flight was quick but I sat between a family who kept screaming across me and the isle about what they see out of the window. The kids had never flown before so they were super excited. At first it was cute, but it got old really fast.

After we landed, my boss slipped me a quarter so I got started gambling before I even made it out of the airport. Of course, I lost the quarter. What an omen! A car service picked us up at the airport but our driver was just a little crazy.

I don't know if he was drunk or what, but he kept swerving into the other lanes. I'll admit, I was a little scared. Of all the ways to get hurt in Vegas, mine was going to be from a crazy cabbie.

The three gentlemen I was traveling with where staying at Wynn Las Vegas and I was staying in its sister property, the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas. Wow, what a hotel! Actually, both of these hotels were stunning. The details were amazing - everything from the glass murals in the floor to the vibrant chandaliers hanging from the ceiling were breathtaking. I had never stayed in a 5-star resort before so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect but, like I said, I was spoiled.

In short, we ate at Switch, Tableu, and Daniel Bouluds and I lost all of my money playing slots, roulette, and craps. However, I did drink my weight in free beer while gambling and was treated to a free cigar. Since it was business, I decided to head back to my room at 4:00 am so I could get some sleep for our meeting the next day. The coolest part of the second day was getting to see the inside of the Wynn Theater, home of Le Reve, while the cast was rehearsing. I am dying to see this show and I unfortunately didn't get to. It is definitley on my to-do list when I make it back along with actually leaving the hotels. =)

Great food in Las Vegas
Switch is located in the new Encore at Wynn Las Vegas property. The concept behind the restaurant is changing atmosphere. Every half hour the walls and/or ceiling move to reveal new decor. It kind of feels like you are in an Indiana Johns movie - the music changes and it has a very intense feeling. I thought the concept was very neat and original. The only thing I would say, is that they need at least one more rotation. We were in the restaurant for two hours, so for four rotations, and the last rotation was repeated. If you are going to keep me in a restaurant for two hours, please give me enough rotations that I don't see the same thing over. Of course, that is just my opinion.

The service was excellent. We were seated immediately, although it was late when we arrived so I am not sure what the wait would have been around dinner time. The waiters were very polite and seemed to know the menu very well.

The food is, of course, what really matters. Myself and two others decided to share a Double Porterhouse. This stake was 40 ounces of deliciousness! It was more than enough for the three of us. It was cooked to perfection and the seasoned rub on the outside was very tasty, one of the best I have had. We also ordered a side of carrots which were good and a side of sweet potato fries. I am not a huge fan of sweet potatoes but these were very good. We had a bottle of wine but I can't remember the exact kind. However, I do know their list was extensive. I have no complaints about the food what-so-ever.

The prices were on the high side, but you definitely get what you pay for. The atmosphere is always changing which is unique. The service was great. The food delicious. I would definitely recommend it to others.

The dress is casual business attire and dinner is served nightly from 5:30 to 10:00.
