Adventurous Day 2

Haggy loves the breakfasts at The Inn and Spa at Cedar Falls

I had absolutely no idea:

Cereal bars would never been good enough for me again.

Dan and I were up at 7:45 a.m. and headed for breakfast at 8:30 a.m.  As we walked into the restaurant we were greeted by name and wished happy anniversary (nice touch!).  We requested to sit outside on the patio.  Our drink order was taken and our server informed us that the daily breakfast was a quiche with veggies and a sausage patty.  We both ordered the breakfast and were told about the fruit and yogurt table where we could get as much fruit and yogurt as we wanted.  The Inn even blends its own juice.  We also let our server know that we were leaving immediately for our adventure and would need our lunch packed up.  After breakfast, our cooler was whisked away and returned to us full of ice and our lunches.  The staff bid us farewell and have fun as we loaded the car and headed out for our zip line adventure.

Haggy reads over the liability form before the zip line.

I had absolutely no idea:

Being a monkey was so much fun.

We had about a 20 minute drive to the zip line course.  We arrived early and played some cornhole which was set up in the area.  Promptly at 10:00 a.m., we were greeted by our guides Leifkin (I don’t think I spelled that correctly) and Joey.  We were a group of 10 (including the guides).  We all practiced zipping on a short line (I had a hard time breaking) and we were off.

Doing the Canopy Tour was a BLAST and I’d recommend it to most anyone.  The guides and equipment keep you very safe.  We zipped over 10 different lines and learned about native plants, animals, and pastimes.

Haggy watches the pictures and decides he's too scared and will wait in the car.
The entire trip lasted around 3 hours and was worth every cent.

I had absolutely no idea:

Having lunch all packed up for you wasn’t just for kids.

Our lunch stayed nice and cool and was again, very appropriately filling with sandwiches, fruit, a dessert, and chips.  YUM!

I had absolutely no idea:

It was so easy to see the face of God.

After our lunch, we went to Rockhouse.

What a goober ready to zipline.
The hike to Rockhouse was a little more strenuous than Cedar Falls, but not by too much.  It is a little more vertical than Cedar Falls, but again, has steps and wider paths.  If you want to do more climbing, you can (as you can see Haggy and I did in one spot.)

Rockhouse is an eroded out area of sandstone.  The erosion left a cave in the rocks that has columns supporting the roof, ledges where Native Americans stored things, and streams running through in a few places.  Legend has it as a Native American meeting place, and a robber’s den.  Either way, it is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen.  When we downloaded our pictures, both Dan and I noticed “faces” in the rocks, trees, and formations.  I told Dan that people often ask, “What does God looks like?”  We captured Him in many of our pictures!  God is in everything, if you just look. J

I had absolutely no idea:

I could make that hike.

Dan looks great in his helmet.

We went to hike Conkle’s Hollow after Rockhouse.  There are two different ways to see Conkle’s hollow: an easy, paved, relatively flat half-mile path into the center of the Hollow.  OR, a grueling, very vertical (by my standards), inches from 200-foot sheer drop, dangerous 3-mile hike.  Having already completed one hike, and a zip line tour, we, OF COURSE, took the hard route.  Boy, we are glad we did.  The views were totally amazing.  I will admit, I was frightened at times coming so close to the edge and hiking out on rocks that had nothing but air under them, but I can see why people make the hike.  It was breathtaking.  Unfortunately, I did not think of the camera as much as I thought about plunging to my death, so I do not have many pictures.  However, Dan and I plan to go back in the fall and make the same hike.  You could not PAY me to do it in the winter when it is a little icy, though… no no no way.

I had absolutely no idea:

Supper could taste so good.

After that last hike, we headed back for the Inn.  I am a little sad we didn’t do the half-mile hike to see the bottom of what we had just hiked around the top of, but we already have plans on returning, so we’ll catch it next time.

Dan and I relaxed a bit and got ready for supper.  There is a small tavern next to the restaurant.  We were greeted and seated right on time (again, greeted by name and an anniversary wish.)

Now, I am not a fussy eater, but I know what I like and I like a wide variety of places and things.  I eat at nice places, but I have never, EVER experienced food like this.  It was a 5-course meal where absolutely everything is prepared moments before being sat on your table by an excellent chef.  I had the Chef’s Special, which was crab cakes, a potato (I’m not sure how it was prepared, but it was incredible), and asparagus.

The group heads to zip #1 of 10.
Dan had a chicken breast and herbs.  We both agreed that this meal was amazing.  It went on my “Top Five Favorite Meals, EVER”.  Chef Anthony did not charge us for the wine because of the noise the previous evening, which was appreciated.  After an equally amazing dessert, Dan and I left the restaurant full and happy.  I would HIGHLY recommend dining at the Inn, even if you are not staying with them (please note that you will need reservations.)

I had absolutely no idea:

I liked feeling like the only people around.

With our tummies full, we strolled around the 75-acre grounds a bit.  We saw many deer and rabbits.  We saw beautiful plants.  We lit a fire when the sun went down.  We lounged in the hammock.

HERE I COME!
We counted stars in the lounge chairs.  We, however, never saw another soul.  It was almost as if we were the only ones staying at the Inn.  Everything was wonderfully peaceful and serene.  I can easily see why people return season after season and year after year.

Again, I slept very well.  Those beds are so comfortable.
