The office and gift shop - The Inn and Spa at Cedar Falls

I had absolutely no idea:

Ohio had so much to offer.

Dan and I booked our 5th anniversary trip back in the early part of the year.  We decided on something a little different than our normal “find salt water and a beach” vacation.  We had originally considered going to Niagara Falls.  In January we went to a AAA vacation show in Columbus, and was amazed by everything the Hocking Hills area had to offer.  We decided that it seemed silly to leave the state when there was so much so close to home that we haven’t seen.

I had absolutely no idea:

We could afford to be treated like a star.

Haggy found the fresh baked cookies that greet you in your room the first day.

We found a place called The Inn and Spa at Cedar Falls.  They offered an “Adventure Package” which included 2 nights stay, 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch, and 2 dinners.  It also included an adventure, which you can select from local adventures including a canopy zipline tour, horseback riding, and tubing.  We selected the canopy tour.  For everything we received, we agreed it was a pretty good deal for under $700.  We also had agreed to stay somewhere very nice and treat ourselves for our 5th.  The Inn and Spa at Cedar Falls and the Hocking area turned out to exceed our expectations in every way.

I had absolutely no idea:

Food out of a basket could taste so good.

Within minutes of checking in, our first meal arrived in a very colorful picnic basket.  We could take our basket anywhere we wanted, from the many little places on the grounds to the nearby parks and picnic areas.  Because we had a bottle of wine, we elected to stay on the grounds (alcohol is prohibited and generally a very bad idea in the park area.)  We found 2 chaise lounges under a tree, just near the hammocks, and ate our first supper.  It was phenomenal!  For the two of us, we had a large plate of cheese and crackers, fruit, a large gourmet sandwich each, a dessert each, and a bottle of Red Rocks wine.  We spent the rest of the late afternoon swinging in one of the two-person hammocks and enjoying our bottle of wine.

After dinner, we headed for Cedar Falls, our first hike.  While there was some climbing involved, the path was cleared out nicely and I would say is a pretty easy hike.  The difficult places had stairs and Cedar Falls is relatively close to the parking lot.

It was so beautiful.  You’ll just have to look at the pictures because words escape even me when trying to describe something so beautiful.

I had absolutely no idea:

Loud people could bother me that much.

As we were enjoying the stars coming out, we noticed an odd increase in shouting and noise.  Here a large business had put up about 20 of their employees at the Inn for the evening.  One reason we booked this Inn was because it was secluded and advertised a serene setting.  In some of our paperwork, it even requested that “quiet time” begin at 10:00.  At 11:00 p.m., this very loud and drunk group had moved to the fire ring (which we had been enjoying until they came up and kind of took over).

I have NEVER done anything like this before, but they were loud and getting louder.  We mentioned to the chef (who happened to be the first person we came across) that they were very loud and asked if they were staying in the rooms near us (if they were, I might have requested a room change) and found out they weren’t.  The chef apologized (in which we said we certainly didn’t blame the Inn at all) and we later found out he spoke to them.  They did quiet down a bit, but it was just very annoying that they were so completely inconsiderate.  We appreciated Chef Anthony helping out and felt he handled it very well.  The next time I book at the Inn, I’m going to ask if there are any large groups staying at the same time.  If there are, I’m choosing another time.

Other than that group and a knocking in the plumbing (that Dan fixed easily) we had an excellent night.  The beds were amazingly comfortable and I slept well.

Congrats, on your feature! It brings back good old memories of southeast Ohio. I used to visit Old Man's Cave all the time, and I sure do miss the place. Thanks ...Tony!
