Leaving for Mumbai

WERE FINISHED ON THE 18TH OF MARCH JUST A FEW KILOMETERS UNDER CHENNAI AND RASED ABOUT 60.000 EUROS FOR THE CHILDREN.

THANX TO ERIC (TB) FOR THE DONATION!! WERE VERY GRATEFUL!!

On the 4th of march me and Paul left for Mumbai, from brussels airport Belgium. Because Paul booked his flight to late, he was on another flight. I went with Lufhthansa from Brussels via Frankfurt to Mumbai. Paul with Jet Airways direct to Mumbai. Paul left an hour early before me. Jasmyn and Paul's girlfrend brought us to the airport. After my stop in Frankfurt it was another 8 hours of flying to Mumbai. Flight was good with Lufhthansa.

Promoting the Challenge
The fifth of march at 2.45am a landed at Mumbai international airport. Pffff that was a difference from weather, it was a good 29 degrees celcius when i arrived, something different from the 8th degrees in Belgium. Once i had my bag i went out looking for Paul who arried a bit earlier than me. India really hits you in the face when you arrive for the first time, it's so crowded and so hectic............

After i changed some euros for india rupees and ordered a airport cab i went outside to meet Paul. He was right there at the exit so no problem finding hem. We got into the cab wich brought us to the hotel. Right after we left and stopped for the traffic light children come to the car and bag for money, but giving them will not solve anything so we didn't do that. It's sad to see but that for most people the live in India.

Receiving our rickshaw
When we arrived at the hotel there were no rooms left, but the owner had another hotel whitch had 3 rooms left. A car from the hotel brought us there. The room was 5000rs but we got a good discount and payed 3750 rupees. Room was nice and clean! In the room we ordered some Fosters beer with roomservice always good after a longhaul flight from europe!

On the 6th of March we met up with the rest of the teams on the rooftop of the hotel the organisation was in. Temperatures were allready up to 35 degrees celcius so pretty hot. It was nice seeing the other teams again sinds we met at the Kickoff event in Holland. All the paperwork for renting the Rickshaws and paying the depossit of 900 euros took a while, food and drinks enough to keep us busy and get to know the other 17 teams. At about 3pm we left the hotel to go and get our rickshaws.

Zenzi bar Mumbai
The organisartion told us the had some problems with the police so the hat to 'fiks' things with them (indian style!!). It took us a good 45 minutes by taxi rickshaw to find the spot were 'our' rickshaws were parked. Once everything was setled with the police and we got our last breafing it was time to start the engines en head over to the Zenzi bar Lounge en bar in the Bandra area of west Mumbai. It was a good our drive and our first experience with our 'new' vehicle.
Arriving at the Zenzi we parked the rickshaw in the halfopen roof of the bar. Here we had some time to prepare it for the start of the Challenge on the 7th of march, including putting our sponsorstickers on it (incl.TB sticker). After stickering and a good beer, we left for the hotel to shower and change for the evening kickoff party, with our 'own' bollywood stars in the Zenzi bar.
Ready to go!!

From the hotel later on that evening we took a taxi rickshaw to the Zenzi. Me and Paul were the first ones to arrive. Zenzi is a nice bar/lounge were the bollywood juppies like to show them selvesin the evening. Some were invited on this special evening, so it was nice to talk to them and share stories. The evening was all inclusive drinks and snacks. By midnight party was over and we tried to get in, into another nightclub but we had no luck sinds it was a private party. Well than back to the hotel, sleep an got ready for the next morning START of the bombaychallenge 2010.
