After Muzzano I figure I should start heading back, so I follow a path up around the pond and across the tracks to the little hilltop village of Sorengo with a splendid view, a charming church with huge clock and a beautifully painted interior… and then down a walled in path covered with grapevines that says “Lugano”…

It like my time is up.  I reach Lugano, and take another tour around the Old City where an arts and crafts festival is in full swing… then back to the hostel to grab my bag, then back on the train to Chaisso…

Nineteen towns in Paradise.  It’s been an unforgettable three days…

That evening I head back to the same hostel I’d stayed at before in Como.

And I realize there’s one more thing I need to do to complete my Alps adventure:  I need to swim in Lake Como.

It’s dark when I make my way down to the shore, thinking the water will certainly be frigid--  but it’s actually not all that bad!

Swimming under the stars in a lake in the Alps in surround by mountains and silence is really cool way to top off my trip.  As I float on my back, staring up at the sky, I think back on the last 65 five days of my life… I have accomplished the impossible.  I have travelled all over Western Europe on a shoestring budget.  I have even 19 Swiss cities and towns and spent only pocket change in doing so…

Whatever challenges lie ahead, I think I’m ready to face them…
