From Milan I skip a whole bunch of towns and go straight to Como, a city right near the Swiss border.  I’m almost out of time--  but I still want to at least get a taste of Switzerland and the Alps--  kind of like the desert of my trip.

My eyes are glued on the window--  looking for the first sign of mountains… finally, the first foothills of the Alps catch my eye… My journey across the plains has come to an end.

But I won’t have to go to Switzerland to see my first Alpine gem… Como itself is a beautiful town tucked in between steep mountain slopes at the very tip of a long and narrow lake.

I soon I find my hostel up the road a ways right next to the lake--  right in the villa district where you find grand mansions surrounded by beautiful gardens…

It’s late, but I follow the lakeside back into town.  There I find that Como is not just a luxury lakeside resort.  It has a cozy little Old Town with a mini-duomo style cathedral, winding alley and a wall around parts of the town…

There’s an “airport” here in Como--  the runway is the lake…

I can’t wait until morning so I can take a video clip with this beautiful, dreamlike landscape.

My dream of visiting the Alps--  without breaking my budget--  is starting to come true…
