St Gervais le PrĂ©s is a tiny little suburb tucked away in the northeast border of Paris.  It’s composed mostly of narrow streets and a cozy little central fountain plaza with a plaque telling of the history of the town.  At one time this was an important water source for the surrounding area, thus giving the town its identity.

It seems like the only way to get to Bagnolet is through Paris… but I don’t want to due that… I’ve already bid farewell to Paris twice, and it’s annoying to have to say goodbye to the same city too many times… Fortunately I find a stairway up a hill to an apartment complex area, and then down to Les Lilas and Bagnolet…

…Not riots or burnt cars this time around…

And so ends my visit to my 68th French town--  my 52nd Paris suburb… almost certainly my last one for the year.

I still have a full month of travel left, and I’m still eager to explore more of Paris region and the rest of France--  but I think I’ve seen enough of France for this trip.

I’ve seen the glorious and the mundane… the pompous and the simple… the beautiful and the ugly… I’ve gained some new insights into this country’s history and its present.  I’ve gained respect for their culture and seen its flaws as well…

My guess is that when this parkbenching project is all over, I will have visited more French towns than any other country and it will always be one of my favourite if not THE favourite country to wander around from village to village in…

But now I feel the call to go explore another of the Great European Cultures:  I’m going to Italy….
