Finally I cross the freeway and am pretty sure I’ve officially exited the city.  I wish they had clear signs here like in France that tell you when you’ve reached the edge of a town…

A sign says that I’m approaching “Clondalkin”… hopefully that’s another town…

Shortly after entering the village, I’m greeted by a little castle… nothing really impressive--  but hey! It’s a castle… A bit further down I reach a cheerful little village center with the typical black and yellow pubs with Irish flags waving outside… This is starting to feel more like the Ireland I was expecting…

And then up ahead I see this narrow stone tower--  almost like a round smokestack with a cone roof.  I go to check it out.  An inscription reads that it was used for storage and fortress to escape from attacks…

I’m not quite sure how a whole village would be able to squeeze into this tower…

Anyway, it’s an interesting little discovery… a bit further up ahead, a come across an old canal with a set of ancient locks…

Pleasantly surprised by Clondalkin… let’s see what else there is up the road…
