It’s getting late and common sense tells me I should head on back to Frankfurt.  But I’m still in an adventurous mood, so after looking at a map, I decide to continue east and then maybe catch a ferry over the river back north and then west to Frankfurt.

So I hike down a long stretch of peaceful countryside/industrial area.  Not too bad, since there’s a sidewalk the whole way.

It’s dark when I reach the quiet little village of Mulheim with just a couple of shops on its narrow main street.  It does have a bit of that cozy German village charm with some half timber and stone houses and churches with tall needlelike spires…

It being so dark, it’s hard to find a place take my clip… finally I just take it in front of a stone house, hoping I don’t look to weird…

Theres an S bahn train back to Frankfurt… almost 5 Euros, which stings a bit… I’d really like to wander around Germany a lot more, but these kind of prices aren’t going to work for me…

At the train station I meet a couple of Dominican and Venezuelan immigrants who help me figure out the ticket machine… a pleasant little encounter…

Then on the train, I sit next to a couple of Turkish fellows, one of them carrying a violin… they seem interested in my guitar, so I take it out and we set up a little jam session right there in the train… The ticket checker gets on and tells us to shut up--  but as soon as he’s gone the other guys go right back to playing music…

It’s been a very full, unusual and inspiring day here in Germany…
