My 7th day of wandering starts out with a hike through the forest.  Normally it would have been a very nice way to start out the day, but today my feet and my shoulders are really killing me.  Physically I still haven’t adjusted to this lifestyle yet and I’m feeling really worn out.  But I’m hoping that if I just keep going I’ll manage to build up calluses and stamina.  After all, this is a 65 day journey, so I’m really just getting started!

According to the map, there should be a footpath straight through the forest that will take me to the Cormeille en Parisis, then on to Satrouville, Houlles and Bezons--  thus finishing off the “Westernmost Penninsula”… I’ve also got to keep up the pace so I can keep going after that and don’t end up back in dodgy Colombe again at the end of the day…

I really hope I can find this path--  if not I’ll have to do a huge loop south through Argenteuil, and I’m in absolutely no mood for backtracking today… I find a path and hope it’s the right one… but after a half an hour or so I check my compass and it turn out that once again, I’m heading in exactly the wrong direction--  northeast!

I pause to weigh my predicament… and finally decide to just keep going and taking left turns whenever possible… Finally I come across a road with a very welcoming sign that reads  “Cormeille en Parisis”.

I heave a big sigh of relief.

There’s nothing quite like making a cool discovery after a cold night outdoors and getting lost in the forest--  it’s like all of a sudden that trouble and hardship was worth it… And Cormeille is definitely a cool discovery…

Maybe it’s the color… the various shades of tan of waterstained walls and holes exposing the brick and stone walls of the buildings… it’s your quintessential French village, charmingly shabby and beautifully unpretentious…  So for the next hour or two, I travel back in time to the simple life of a French village…

And there are more pleasant surprises… I was bracing myself for a rather boring Saturday with all shops closed up tight… but no, the market here is alive and well, with vendors eagerly trying to sell their fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese and fish… I also find a discount supermarket where I can stock up on cheap canned food…

And then I continue on down the road through a short stretch of open countryside to Satrouville…
