Enghien les Bains is a tiny little suburb in a not so interesting section of Greater Paris, so I figure my visit will be short and not very memorable…

Ironically, it actually has a “big city” feel to it with a bustling commercial section a beautiful cathedral, a classy administrative section… and a splendid little lake.  The lake is lined with a casino, a huge fountain, a row of flags, parks and rows of colourful boats--  a welcoming pleasant surprise and break in the routine…

As  I walk along the lake looking for a good place to take my clip, a French lady, accompanied by her 3 year old daughter, call me over.

“I just bought my daughter a guitar… could you possibly take a minute to give her a quick lesson?”  it seemed like a rather bizarre request, but I’ve had sadly very little contact with the locals over the last couple of days, so I’m certainly not going to turn down this opportunity.

So we sit down on a bench and I attempt to teach the 3 year old a very easy chord… no luck… I try to teach her to pick a simple 3 note melody… no luck there either… But it was a very pleasant encounter nonetheless.  I told the lady about my Global Music project and she was a bit surprised that I was playing music in a place like Enghien les Bains rather than Paris

“I want to discover someplace new--  not just go where everybody goes” I explained.  We both agreed that Enghien les Bains is certainly a place worth discovering.  I played a couple of songs for them and she suggested a club or two in the area that I might want to check out…

“If you come back here tomorrow, you’ll find us here” she told me.

I’ve been definitely charmed by this town… but I still have many more discoveries to make…

So I head on my way… following the lake past some odd onion shaped sculptures and a quiet strip where folks come to fish… And bid the town farewell…
