I continue on north along the river... past more farmland and open countryside.  I should look for a place to camp, but it’s not quite dark yet, so I keep going.   I pass another Roma campground... and then another industrial park… I figure it won’t last for very long so I keep on going.  But the industrial strip just drags on and on… I’m now in the town of  “Bezons” and quite frankly, I’m not liking this town at all.  Nothing wrong with industrial complexes, just not good places to wander around at 11 o’clock at night…

Then suddenly, the complex ends and I’m in the middle of Big City, with high rise apartments and flashy lights… I have reached downtown Bezons

I realize I’ve put myself in a bit of a predicament.

There are clearly no cheap places to stay in Bezons, and no safe, discreet places to camp… and city transportation is starting to shut down for the night… I really should have just camped out somewhere around peaceful Carriéres…

I quickly evaluate my options… It looks like there’s a forest over across the Seine heading towards Paris, so I decide to head that way… I reach it only to find that it’s completely fenced off… So I continue on into a very urban suburb of Colombe…

Now I want to explore the more dodgy Paris suburbs of course, but not late at night while carrying all my stuff with me… But the streets are still pretty active, and don’t feel too dangerous, so I keep on going…

Finally I reach a pedestrian bridge that takes me across the freeway back to the forest, where I finally find a place to camp.

I feel a bit relieved--  but decide I’d better not push my luck next time… from now on I’ll try to make sure that late in the day I don’t end up in a rough looking suburb…

Next Day…

Next morning, I head on back to explore Colombe in daylight.  It feels much less intimidating now… I can enjoy the giant 17 story mural on the side of an apartment building… I enjoy soaking in the vibe along the rather gritty streets past interesting little ethnic foodshops and markets…

I head on north, take my clip at the ever present War Memorial statue… past the ruins of an ancient chapel and on to the Mairie… It’s a very impressive building, but surrounded by trees, so I can’t get a very good shop… Around it is a bustling open air market vendors are selling clothes, purses and shoes…

I must say, I kind of like this town.  It does have a bit of a ghetto feel but it feels alive and cheerful at the same time… I take a picture of a graffiti covered wall with a couple of classic French house in the background…  Here’s where modern France and historical France meet…
