I end up making a huge loop all the way to Carriéres sur Seine and then back around to Montesson.  Part of me just wanted to skip it all together… but I just can’t bring myself to do that.  And the scenery is the most boring so far:   fields covered with brambles… fields of vegetables… a few scattered farmhouses…

I realize that hiking long distances from town to town might not be such a good idea after all--  I’m getting irritated after just a few kilometres of boring scenery!  I do find a couple of ripe blackberry patches, so it’s not all bad…

It seems pretty odd to see so much undeveloped land in one of the most expensive, housing-hungry metropolises in the world… My best guess is that each of these suburbs is somewhat free to decide its own destiny, and Montesson is determined to stay semi-rural… for now…

I finally reach Montesson proper, and find a cheerful little village with your standard fountain in a little plaza in front of an old church on a narrow street lined with quaint little shops… I still haven’t gotten tired of these little French towns… After exploring 200 Moroccan towns last year, many of which had no plaza, no shade, nothing really to take a picture of--  it’s kind of nice having a bit of predictability for a change…

I think the long, tiring hike to Montesson was worth it… And it looks like I should be able to fit in one more town before calling it a day…
