After lunch at restaurant 't Piepenhoes'

We booked tickets for this concert in September 2009. So, we had our first grade tickets, row 15, right in the middle of the audience, since 10 months in a drawer ;)

This morning we drove to Maastricht, checked in at the same bed & breakfast as last year (we even had the same room!) and walked across the St. Servaas bridge to have a light lunch at a sunny outdoor café.

In the early evening we had a typical ‘Maastricht’s’ dinner at restaurant ‘Pieke Potloed’ (review will follow).

Then we walked to the Vrijthof (the main square of Maastricht where the concert would take place). This year there were 8 concerts, July 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17 & 18th!

In the meantime it turned out that the theme of the concert would be ‘My African Dream’ (as André Rieu and his Johan Strauss Orchestra & Choir did a tour in South Africa recently).

After dinner we went to the theatre, as André Rieu and his orchestra gather at the steps before they walk to the stage at the other site of the square.

As it started raining we hid in the theatre and had the chance to check the paintings of Marc Rieu, eldest son of André Rieu.

Soon it stopped raining, the steps were dried and mr. Rieu and his people were on the steps!

As the concert started there was some light rain for about 10 minutes. As umbrella’s are not allowed everybody was provided with a poncho J. Lucky enough we needed them only for a short time.

The concert lasted from 9.30 pm to almost 00.30 am and was just fantastic. After the concert we had a couple of drinks at a nice terrace at OLV-plein (square). Made it to bed at 4 am ;)
