André Rieu, open air concert Vrijthof Square, Maastricht
Last year a friend asked me to join her visiting a concert of André Rieu in ArenA Amsterdam.
The so called World Stadium Tour, with a copy of Castle Schönbrunn,
I didn’t know what to think about it, but after this marvellous night I could only say ‘what an event!!’
After this concert we made plans to join an open air concert, on the
Being very keen (tickets are sold out in ‘no time’) we managed to book tickets (in October 2008) for July 10th 2009, row 8.
Booked a bed & breakfast as well and forgot about it J
On Friday July 10th we drove to
After (a late and long ;-)) lunch we walked to the Vrijthof and were watching a rehearsal of the concert. At night we were in the audience of the first of five open air concerts. Difficult to describe, you’ve to experience it yourself! We had a great time!!! Hope to be there in 2010 again!
Added on August 30th (2009): In the meantime I've the DVD which was recorded during the concerts. Bringing back great memories :-)

Beautiful, monumental house (18th century) situated in the city centre of Maastricht, neighbourhood Wyck.
This B&B has only 3 rooms (with bathrooms) and 1 extra room which you can book in combination with one of the other rooms (and share the bathroom).
We were staying (for two nights) in the ‘Orange’ room.
Comfortable bed, small bathroom with good shower, separate toilet.
Very (very!) steep stairs to the first floor. Room at the second floor.
Only 5 minutes walking from the railway station, 10 minutes walk to the Vrijthof (most famous square of Maastricht).
Very nice breakfast.

I'm not very well informed about prices of B&B's....... think it is somewhere in between average and expensive.

On this rainy Friday afternoon we had a fantastic lunch at this place, only steps away from “Onze Lieve Vrouwe” square and Vrijthof square.
We choose a fixed lunch menu.
It started with three lovely ‘amuses’, gazpacho, duck liver with portwine and absolutely delicious mackerel with cucumber jelly and tzatziki.
First course was red label salmon with crab. Main course sea-perch. And for dessert tiramisu with strawberries and raspberry sorbet.
All this great food came with a cocktail (‘bubbles’), two different white wines (one from Thorn, in Limburg and a French chardonnay), a red wine (from Sicilia) and a (not too sweet) red dessert wine. 2 cups of coffee with goodies and water.
We paid only fifty euro’s a person for this treat!!
It is an up class restaurant, but very worth the money, and the lunch offer is just great.
Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere.
