Today will be one of the highlight of our journey. Climbing the Fox Glacier. The glacier is about 13 km long and very unique because they descend from the snowy alps to rainforest close to the coast. We opted for a Half Day Fox Glacier Walk with ‘Alpine Guide’. We rode on an antique bus to the base. From there we start climbing. What a delightful eco-tour. Stunning vistas and opportunity to marvel at the features of the glacier. Our guide Mark shared with us his knowledge on glaciology and geology. The trip took about 3.5 to 4 hours and they provide boots, socks, crampons and  alpenstocks. We had fun putting on the crampons and climbing it does require some fitness level. Saadan who left his shoes at Port Hills gave up halfway. The 4 of us continues our ascend with  full determination. The view from up there was breathtakingly beautiful. It was quite challenging and tiring.... but alhamdulillah, we reached the glacier safely and it was worth every single steps!!.

What an amazing experience.

When we returned to Rainforest Motel at noon, Saadan was  kind enough to prepare us a special lunch. Nasi Himpit Goreng (Fried Compacted Rice) " that was the 1st time ever we tasted such a cuisine i.e. not available in Malaysia. His own personal creation actually,  by mixing whatever he could think of as inspired by his breathless effort climbing Fox Glacier. It was delicious though, thank you Saadan.

After lunch, quick rest and Jamak prayer  we made our way to Lake Matheson. It was about 15 minutes drive from our Motel. There is a very special viewing place where you can see Mt Tasman & Mt Cook and their reflection on the  surface of the lake. It took us about another 20 minutes walk to get there. Unfortunately when we arrived the cloud had encapsulated the Mt peaks and image of them on the water surface is not as clear as what we saw in those beautiful pictures. But it was still worth it, as the surrounding was so peaceful with lush vegetation and fresh air. We determined to go there again early next morning. How could we leave Lake Matheson without seeing its beauty with our own eyes.
