Traveling to Bangkok twice a year's like a ritual for me. Most Singaporeans visit Bangkok for nightless shopping, and dirt-cheap good food. As much as I try to promise myself never to succumb to the temptation of a weekend of shopping in Bangkok, my sinful girlfriends would always lure me into covet ;)
On the 2nd last trip there, thank God I had the opportunity to visit some touristy spots other than the shopping malls and night market. I went to Wat Pho to see the temples, and had a fun shot at having my fortune told. I'd hope to believe what the fortune teller said about me being to live til 87 is true, that way I could enjoy traveling a for a little longer.
I visited the Royal Palace as well, and my eyes blurred at the amount of gold and stones used to construct the palace. It was fun though.
I had my first try at traditional Thai cuisine, and it was not as spicy as I feared it to be. I kinda start liking Thai food now. Just as long as Tom Yam Kung's not in the menu.
I tried the motor taxi for the first time and I love it. Being bad influence, I nagged at my friend to take the first motor ride in her life. I love the breeze and speed. I wish I get my bike license soon someday. Maybe in a foreign land without my mum's notice ;) I tried the public bus too... although it was an absolute risk for there were no indications in English to where the bus would take us too. I was amused how we had to pay the fare to a bus conductor, and how she would whack anyone with her bamboo tray if they refused payment.
Bangkok is good fun. A place to visit at least once in your lifetime. Just to get amazed by how cheap shopping could get, get a painful ass with too much chili in the food, jeering at the silly 'ladyballs', and on a more positive note, checking out the wonderfully crafted temples and palaces.
