Today was our Full On day. We went to a gym to do our morning activities. Our Full On leader was Jason or “Hot Jason” as we came to call him. Love those New Zealand accents! He had the students breaking boards with their hands. He also did a few other team building activities. One where you had to get in the circle and pass a ball in order was the same as last year in Australia.
After a few hours in the gym we jumped on the bus and headed to Penrhyn Castle. There we belayed down the side of an 80 foot tower. I was impressed that everyone in the delegation tried it, including all the leaders. Jon, Lori, and Jill had all voiced that they had no intention of doing it at all. All three had a change of heart and decided to give it a go. I, on the other hand, couldn’t wait to get to the top of that sucker! Only two of the boys and Jill got to the top and backed out. I was very impressed. After everyone had gone we went back to the gym and did some reflecting. Jill, Jon and Lori took a break and headed into town while I watched the kiddos.
That night, back at the hostel, the students had a Welsh lesson. I took my break then. After dinner Jon and Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmitt took a group of kids on a hike to the top of a nearby mountain to watch the sunset. What we didn’t realize was that the sun doesn’t set until about 10:45 so the whole group was very late for their curfew.
