Friday morning, our plane left from airport Niederrhein in Germany at 7 in the morning so we were a little sleepy when we landed at Treviso airport, close to Venice. Even though it was very early, it felt like coming home again so that's the first thing i said to Chris when we landed: We're home again. We rented a car and drove to our first place to spend the night: Verona. Because we have been there many times before, we decided not to spend the day there but to visit Vicenza, a city in the neighbourhood, also called Palladio's city. The historical center of Vicenza is on the Unesco World Heritage list and i must say, it's a nice center. It's not that big, so you can walk it all. The eyecatcher is the mainsquare in Vicenza, Piazza dei Signori with the Basilica Palladiana on it. It's nice to have a drink here and enjoy watching the Italian business people walking by, see children chasing pigeons and to watch old Italians discuss about everything. This is a real Italian city without many tourist. People don't speak english here, i love that. We went sightseeing for a little while so we saw the statue of Palladio, the Duomo and the shopping street Corso Andrea Palladio. We didn't visit musea here because we had a long day ahead, but even if you want to do so, you don't have to spent a whole day here. Half a day will do it. Later in the afternoon we left to Verona. Clouds arose above our heads so we were a little bit afraid for the evening because we had tickets for the opera in Verona. We arrived in our hotel, changed and went to the nice Piazza dell Erbe to have a nice aperitivo, the famous north Italian spritz with Aperol. It rained a little but an hour later it stopped again so we could have dinner outside on the Piazza Bra with a view on the Arena. It started to look good when clouds went away so we were happy to enter the Arena at 21:00 to see the opera Turandot. We had great seats in front of the stage so it had to be a great night. And it started so great with a nice performance but then it started to rain. So unfortunately the opera was suspended for a while. When the weather seemed to get better again, the opera started again but not much later it started raining again. This went on and on a few times until the opera was cancelled definitely. We were really dissapointed but there was no other option. The only positive thing was that we could sleep a little earlier so we walked back to our hotel and went sleeping immediately. So that was the positive thing about it.
