stops around Two Harbors

We ate lunch at Betty's Pies (see review) and I found a geocache nearby. Some of the photos are from the wayside near Betty's Pies, some are from the overlook at the Silver Creek Cliff Tunnel. I got a little turned around geocaching because I thought it was at Betty's Pies, not across the street. I found a little path in the woods between the parking lot for Betty's and the river that runs by it. I saw a deer down on the rocks in the middle of the river. It was curious about us but we were too far away to be much of a threat.
I later found the geocache hidden in some trees across the river at the wayside. I took some pictures of the shoreline to try to hide what I was doing crawling around in the woods. I was looking for a great shot!
The overlook at Silver Creek Cliff is on the north side of the tunnel and is paved but a little steep going up. This used to be the old Highway 61 that hugged the mountain as it went around the cliff. The road was high up and it was a pretty steep drop down to the rocky lakeshore below. They blasted through the cliff to create the tunnel as a safer router around this big rock. Now you can pull off and walk the entire stretch from one side of the tunnel to the other on the paved trail. There is a sign about the cliff, tunnel and road up at the overlook. You can also get your photos of the tunnel from either side.
