High Falls

Next stop Tettegouche!  I have been here several times before so I was just here for geocaching.  Turns out the trail to the cache led 0.7 miles to the High Falls location.  Bummer.  Off I went and actually had trouble down near the falls.  The tree cover had me wandering in the woods.  I went back up some steps and then saw it next to a rock, not well hidden at all.  I grabbed the box and sat on the bench while I went through it.  I was signing the log when some girls came up the steps and sat down by me.  I was going to wait until they left but then some more girls joined them, followed by some adults.  It was a girl scout troop!

Then the adults got to the top of the steps, one of them asked the girls what time it was.

“Knot time!  Who wants to teach their knot?”  Oh, I’ll be here all day!   I walked over to one of the adults sitting on the rock and explained that I needed to rehide the geocache.  They weren’t sure what geocaching was so they asked me to explain it to the girls so I did!  They seemed really interested and thought they might try it at Split Rock Lighthouse because they had GPS units to borrow for free.

It was getting late so I hurried back.  Mom was getting worried about me because I had been gone so long (imagine if she hadn’t been with me at all!).  We were hungry so we went to the wayside area for a picnic.  All the tables were in the sun so we brought out chairs and sat in the shade for our PB&Js.

Mom wanted to hike the Shovel Point trail since she hadn’t done it before.

Shovel Point
I’ve hiked it a few times, but it is a nice trail and great view so I went with - didn’t hurt that there was a geocache out there!  We found the cache at the overlook and went back.  There were some people rock climbing on Shovel Point, but we couldn’t see them since we were above them.  That would be fun, but maybe a little scary since you repel down to the water and climb back up.

We didn’t really have any other plans so we went to a little rock beach in Silver Bay to read and search for agates.  I read about a page and then fell asleep.  After my nap I went looking for agates.  I searched for a while and finally found one!  It was small but definitely an agate.  I searched for a long time afterward and didn’t find any more.  I figure the beaches here probably get pretty picked over.
