A little break.

Colonial Cuenca (with Inca roots) and the Cajas national park

We arrived very late into Cuenca and decided to head for the largest cheap hotel we knew of to be sure of a bed.  It ended up not being too bad, although without the niceties of smaller and more expensive ´backpacker´lodgings.

Sunday we had a walk round the city and had a look at some Inca ruins with some Colonial modernisation down near the river.  We also spoke to a very helpful lady at the tourist office who told us all about visiting the Cajas Parque Nacional. so...

On Monday we got up early (6am) and headed out to the park.  It was very cold when we arrived so sporting all our clothes and my (Talan) new garos we ventured forth around the lake and then onto rojo ruta 1.  It was very beautiful and got some glimpses of some interesting birds.  Not confirmed, but either Caranculated Caracaras or Black Vultures.  The early start was well worth it.

Tomorrow off to Peru!
