I visited Buchenwald concentration camp after reading Elie Wiesel's book "Night" . My friend Kristin, who had told me about the book to begin with, was with me. Buchenwald is located near Weimar, Thuringen. There are many signs for it and you will find it under sights in your GPS as "Gedenkstätte Buchenwald".

I have been to Dachau's concentration camp when I was still in school, but experiencing a place like this when you actually get what happened there is nothing I can put into words.

I took a few pictures of what it looks like today.

There is a 30 minute long movie that you can watch before or after visiting the actual grounds. I recommend the movie, but only if you don't have young children with you. I don't think they would understand.

A incredibly sad, haunting, terrible part of my country's history.

Hali, I agree. I recommend the book. It's not an easy read, but it really gives a first person account of what happened and what it did to the people that had to go through it and then live on for the rest of their lives. I'm not sure if surviving something like this is something I would want for myself. So terrible.

As sad, can't imagine the hell they went through. The worst would see your family & friends go through that he'll with you
