These are just some kind words about my pretty city(prettiest in Norway, and possibly the world) to make people want to go there !

The Bergen Experience !

The old fire station

Bergen is great in the summer ! nothing like having an outdoor beer at bryggen whilst the sun is setting behind the citadel castle ( Rosenkranz tower). Bryggen is a creation of wooden houses dating back as far as the 16th. century when german traders settled in our pretty town.
It`s on the UNESCO list of world heritage, and rightly so...
The town was founded as early as 1070 AD, and was the capital of Norway for hundreds of year(why did it ever change?? I suppose proximity to Denmark was one of the points of the new capital.)
It has been the most important centre for trade and commerce in Norway for a very long time as well, but has had some turmoils over the centuries by multiple major fires, pirate attacks(!) and devastations from war. But it remains as the prettiest town in the country still, the one destination not to miss.

continuing towards the center of the town is the fish market. This is where all the local fishermen used to come and have stands for selling their fish and fish products to the city people. Today its more of a market for tourists, as a lot of the products are overpriced, and almost none of the people behind the stands even speak norwegian(half of them are from Italy or spain).  But still it is worth going here for a nice fish meal at least once, as the price of a fish dinner at the outdoor Fish n`chips stand is quite agreeable.

Usually the city is bustling with life on a weekend, people everywhere, outdoor concerts and partitions. Lately we`ve even had a surge of new more exotic contributions from the third world ,such as Living statues, Native indian musicians, russian folk music groups and British street performers.

Stolzekleiven - the stairs up the mountain
.

I`d reccomend visiting the mountains surrounding Bergen, the most obvious beeing Ulriken and Fløyen. Getting to Ulriken should be easy as there is a nice gondola taking people up and down every 10 minutes or so. Getting to Fløyen is just as easy, as there is a funicular track going up there. But I would reccomend walking down, as you will see much more of the city in that way.
An even better alternative is going to Sandviken, and get to a place called Stolzekleiven(you probably need to ask some locals to find it). This is a place where there is about 800 steps of stone buildt on the mountain side getting to the very top.
the view from the top is quite amazing, and from this top it`s an easy walk to get to Fløyen (where all the other tourists will be hanging around after talking the easy way up!)
That`s a little introduction, but I`m not gonna try to cover everything in one entry...oh no Sir..

It doesn't matter which month of the year you visit Bergen it's always raining there ;) Hehehe, no seriously. I've been to Bergen several times now. We had amazing sunny days and rainy ones. Anyway, the city is beautiful even in the pouring rain :)
Yes, beer is expensive! Your picture about sitting at Bryggen is so nice I would even try ;)
