Col. Xochimilco

Everyone that wants to travel around the world should at least get to know their country. This is my attempt at getting to know Mexico. Won't be able to travel all the country at once, but this will try to cover my journey through the years, one state at the time.
The reason I went to Xochimilco was one and just one: to get a ride on the small boats called "Trajineras". Xochimilco is called the floating garden, yet it isn't a garden at it isn't floating ... it would be more like a floating market. When you arrive there you should make a deal with one of the trajinera workers to move you around for a while. The ride is well worth the price because if you go during the week it is very relaxing and during the weekends it is all about party.

A ride through the canals is certainly very relaxing, especially during the morning when everything seems calm, but then you find all sorts of people in their small boats. These people will sell you all sorts of stuff, from beverages to food, and you can also pay some of them for music. There are some people with a marimba and also quite a few mariachis.
