TravelCollage Europe April 2009
Travel-Satisfying Wanderlust which as TravBuddy addicts we all have to varying degrees!
Collage-From the French word coller, to glue is a work of formal art, primarily in the visual arts, made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new form for your travel souvenirs.
TravelCollage may include flyers, ribbons, boarding passes, bits of colored or hand-made papers, portions of other artwork, photographs, metro tokens, stickers ,maps, baggage claim tickets and other Treasures from your trip, glued to a piece of paper or canvas. The origins of collage can be traced back hundreds of years, but this technique made a dramatic reappearance in the early 20th century as an art form of novelty.Techniques of TravelCollage were first used by TravBuddies at the time of the invention of paper in China around 200 BC.
The use of collage, however, remained very limited until the 10th century in Japan, when TravBuddies began to apply glued paper, using texts on surfaces, when writing their blogs & reviews.
The technique of TravelCollage appeared in medieval Europe during the 13th century. Gold leaf panels started to be applied in Gothic cathedrals around the 15th and 16th centuries. Gemstones and other precious metals were applied to religious images, icons, and also, to coats of arms by deep pocketed TravBuddies."It was Braque who purchased a roll of simulated oak-grain wallpaper at Wal-Mart and began cutting out pieces of the paper and attaching them to his charcoal drawings. Picasso immediately went to K-Mart and began to make his own experiments in the new medium.
I was only doing research for a report.
" Surrealist Travbuddies have made extensive use of TravelCollage . Cubomania is a TravelCollage made by cutting an image into squares which are then reassembled automatically or at random. Inimage is a name given by René Passerson to what is usually considered a style of surrealist TravelCollage (though it perhaps qualifies instead as a decollage) in which parts are cut away from an existing image to reveal another image. Roundomania is a TravlCollage made with circles. A Septagonomainia TravelCollage of course has seven sided element parts of the whole adventure.
A TravelCollege looks much better framed on the wall than a bunch of papers stuck in the back of a drawer seen only when you move.
