My Trip to Calgary and Surrounding area in Alberta, Canada 2003 June 24 to July 2nd 2009
My Trip to Calgary and Surrounding area in Alberta, Canada 2003
This is about my trip to this area in June 2003.
Day 1 " Today get up this morning and put my final things in my suitcase. The flight is not till about noon today, so I have time this morning to waste. I do that by watching old 1980’s movies on A and E, Blue Thunder. Well for sure not best movie I have seen in the world, but it was something to watch.
Finally I make it to the airport and check in with my flight to Calgary. It is a direct flight with WestJet. I have a window seat and it’s a good flight. The flight attendant gave me good service on the plane. I found the tiny kid size glass of soda was too small for me, so I asked for a full can and she secretly gave me a can.
I arrive at the Calgary airport and its good landing. Get my bags from inside and then go and pick up my rental car. My rental car is a Chrysler, Intrepid, a little big but nice and comfortable and I got a good price.
I ask the car attendant for directions to get to my hotel, which is in Southern Calgary.
She rambles on and on with all types of directions to the point its all just sounds like a bunch of rubbish. So I take off on my own and figure it out by trial and error.
I get across town very easily and onto the street I am supposed to be on.
I see my hotel in the distance, but I am on opposite side of road, so I try to find a spot to turn around. I make it way out of the city into the country, where I finally am able to turn around. I make it back through the traffic and safely into the parking lot of the hotel, Travelodge in McCloud Trail. I check in and get into my room.
Now it is finally time to explore this area. I leave the hotel and I am hungry, well McDonalds is quite close by so I go there for some lunch. I have a big Mac and large fries with a Coca-Cola, heart attack on a tray.
I then go walking up McCloud Trail towards Chinook Mall, for something to do. This mall is one of the major malls in Calgary, has many stores and a Theatre and Imax, quite impressive. As I am not a shopper I just walk around awhile and check out the place and see what movies are playing.
The movie Fast and Furious 2 is playing tonight, so I will come back later and checks it out.
I walk back to the hotel and decide I need some goodies for my little fridge in the room. I get into my car and drive to Safeway’s. Safeway is a nice store and I shop in them regularly.
I get lots of supplies such as Soda, chips and then to beer store for beer, meal of champions. I drive back to hotel and put all in fridge, at least I work them into the fridge.
Afterwards it is time for dinner, so for old times sake I go down the street to restaurant of Denny’s. I got in and am greeted by a nice Waitress named Nancy. I get a nice booth and am offered a newspaper to read while waiting. I get my menu and decide to order the top value thing on the menu. Some type of steak meal and potatoes. I order my meal and It is served by the main manager, maybe I am special or something.
Overall, a great meal and the soda Coca- Cola went down quite well as well.
No room for dessert tonight, so I just pay my bill and say good bye and thank you and walk back to my hotel.
This evening is going to be quiet evening, So I head back to the Chinook Mall, driving this time and get my ticket for tonight’s movie, Fast and Furious 2, its going to be good.
I wait in line and am tempted by the popping popcorn and soda, but its overpriced and I decide to go without. Finally it is time to go in the room for the movie, I get my ticket ripped by the movie usher kid, who probably has seen the movie 50 times already.
Movie comes on and I watch the movie. Overall it was an ok movie, not as good as first one, but it’s only fast and the furious.
Anyways back to hotel tonight, for some sleep and I will be up for new adventure in the world.
Stay tuned for next days.

Arriving at this club was a good impression at first, the parking lot was huge and there was lots of open space. I enter the club and its was only a 5 dollar cover so I go inside and sit down at a table.
Each time I go to an adult entertainment place, I'm usually too embarrassed being in there I don't get a lot of enjoyment out of watching the girls dance without clothes.. Obviously, there's something inside me that causes me to attempt to set myself apart from the large cast of drooling, dirty old men that hang around center stage with funny smiles on their faces.
When I go to a place like this, I'm looking at everything but the show. And this place sucks. The bathrooms are 3rd class and looked like no one cleans there. (as if that the staff are snappy.
The actual entertainment however was a bit different. Here are some of the low downs of the performances: This is the weirdest strip club, but I think I have an idea of what they are usually like. I think the when I was there, it must have been amateur night.
This one girl danced to a Star Trek theme, wearing the outfit and all. Of course, her clothes didn't last long, but her performance ended up being very awkward. Her moves didn't flow very well, and she definitely had a geeky personality, which was really quite cool.
The next show was a lot different. One girl came on the stage to dance. After a little while, two more girls came on stage. Then a water fountain emerged and rose from the center of the stage. The girls starting dancing in the spraying water, and it looked like they were washing their behinds. The whole experience was rather odd, but to be honest with you, it was so incredibly interesting to watch.
Overall, I would avoid Alberta Adult bars, as there is better entertainment in other parts of the country for this type of entertainment.

From what I have gathered It is now closed, However I will post a review regardless.
This was one of Calgary’s oldest night clubs. They play the basics of the biggest hits in rock, country & top 40. Outlaws Niteclub features some good looking staff on most nights of the week and was an amazing experience going there. I would say they do ensuring a courteous and friendly service while guaranteed an entertaining night out I would deserve!
The layout is about 15,000 sq. ft. venue. The “urban cowboy” facility contains 5 immaculate bars, stage area, loads of sitting room, an exclusive room perfect for private parties, and one of the biggest dance floors in the city from what I heard. The music keeps you going all night and entertained.
Overall It was good as you can take your drinks with you anywhere with you and the crowd was good. Lots of good looking woman here, would make any man feel its worth coming to.
They did have good variety of drinks available. I would say its more for the under 25 age group. As I was under 25 at time of attending here. But overall would be a fun place to go to, if it still existed. Let me know what is now at this address as It has been awhile since going there
When I arrive on site. The parking here was really big as it is located in the parking lot of a hotel and night club as well.
Inside I was greeted well by the server and I was allowed to sit anywhere I wanted. The server came to me in traditional Hooters clothes, the shorts and top. It was very good and got my high ratings.
She offered a good explanation of the menu specials and was able to get me some good beer to start off with.
I ordered different meals each time, I think once was wings, another time some type of burger. All were not super big, but filling and tasted quite well. To the point I would come back again and again.
My ratings of choice on menu, this is not a fine dining, more of a pub and grub type of eating place. More for coming to drink beer and watching the game. But it is worth going to at all times.
Beer was very fresh from the tap and I would recommend coming here for beers.
The service, the girls were very professional with their performance and service was fast and efficient. I would always offer a tip to my servers at this location at anytime.
Overall , recommended for single guys, men, people who like to drink beer.
Come back and check it out and let me know how your experience was.

I have been to this Denny’s a few times in the 1980’s here and at time they had a good milkshakes.
I came back to Calgary in 2003 and I was near this place again. I went in for dinner and had good steak dinner. Probably not steakhouse quality but Denny’s Style.
It was a good experience, simple diner and a nice booth I sat at.
The server was very good to me as she gave me a free newspaper to read while I wait for my meal.
I ordered a sirloin steak with baked potato and vegetables. The manager even served it to me personally.
Overall this meal was quite good and tasted like a real potato and steak was properly done. I would order this meal again and at same location.
The service was very fast as I was checked on many times, by manager and servers. I would attend this place again.
I recommend this place for anyone who likes simple meals and simple atmosphere. It is no club style or hip hop by any means, just plain and simple.
So if your in Calgary, stop by for a burger or wing and let me know your experience.
Thanks for hearing my review travbuddies.

This my review of this hotel. Have stayed here many times back in the 1980’s and early 90’s.
Had travel to this area many times and had ended up here.
Here is my description of the hotel.
The hotel offers over 157 guestrooms and has some suites with Jacuzzi in them. The banquet rooms have over 16000 sq ft of great space and can hold up to 500 people.
There is a restaurant inside as a small nightclub to tailor to everyone’s needs.
The hotel provides many services here is a list of them.:Subsidized taxi fares available to/from Calgary International Airport 5 food and beverage outlets to choose from Complimentary outdoor parking for up to 750 vehicles Sauna, fitness center and seasonal outdoor heated pool with sun deck Same day dry-cleaning and laundry service Complimentary business centre & wireless internet Room service In-house bakery featuring fresh baked breads and pastries Personal voice mail Complimentary calling card & local calls Catering/banquet facilities Kosher kitchen - groups only Special group and weekend rates available In room spa services - RNR Wellness
This hotel is quite old, as it seemed very old when staying here many years ago. We were given a basic room at the very back of the building. The carpet look liked a horse had trampled on it and the beds looked like a many people slept in it before. The TV in the room was Black and White with Bunny ears to get your picture quality. The window would not open as it was sealed or something and was quite dirty.
The outside of the hotel was welcoming as there are these torches around the parking lot, so its quite neat. The lobby ears has a small water fall and a good front desk area with good staff.
The main restaurant did over a fine selection of Canadian cuisine food and many good things to eat. This was a good starting point for a tour into USA of state of California. If I was back in Calgary I would stay at this hotel as, even though the room was bad, the location and price was good.
I would recommend this hotel for weddings, and for people of all ages.
So go ahead and book and let me know how you enjoyed your stay.

I stayed at this hotel back In 2003 while in the city of Calgary, Alberta. The hotel was kinda outdated but overall a good place to stay. It was easy to find while driving down the Macleod Trail in the city and had good amounts of parking. The check in process was fast and efficient, it was a simple lobby area but clean and inviting. The staff were quite pleasant and kind and housekeeping kept smiling and say hello all the time. The room I had was ok and it had a nice little fridge and TV. The beds were nice and comfortable and you could sleep comfortable naked on the sheets quite well. There was a good amount of extra sheets in the cupboard in case one needs. The bathroom was good and always was a good supply of hot water, as well the toilet flushed quite well.
The rooms were quite quiet as I could not hear the party going on down the hall way.
The hotel is located in a good area as I will provide a list of places nearby.

Chinook Mall in Calgary
Chinook Mall is in the south part of Calgary, it has many stores here. It is a unique mall as some its features are unheard of other shopping centres. Such has having the following items:A Time Capsule
An Albertosaurus
Flying Machines
A Solar Vine
A Full-Size Carousel
The mall has many high names stores such as Old Navy, Aldo Shoes and many more. In the food court has a large selection of places to eat such as A and W, East Side Marios, Chinese food and many more.
It has a big movie theatre inside with a large selection of movies always, Don’t forget to go to the IMAX as it is located on the premises as well, which shows many great features.
A great area to check out if your in the area to visit and to live. You won’t be disappointed.
I went to check out this mall for awhile when I was in Calgary, IT was good, I am not a shopper so bit bored. To be fair with my review, I did like the layout and It was easy to find yourself around in this building.
This place is recommended for families, parents with children and people of all ages.
As it does offer many things for almost everyone. Thank you all.
