Mostar

Roast lamb powered by the water wheel, ripper!

Mostar is a town about 4 hours by bus from Split and was our first stop in Bosnia and Hercigovina.

Mostar is famous for its old bridge that was destroyed during the war with Croatia in the 1990s. The bridge has since been rebuilt and is now a symbol of the rebuilding process post war, not only of Bosnia, but also of the relations with the Croatians.

Driving into the town the devastation caused by the war is still clearly visible. The rebuilding of the town has been significant as almost 90% of the town was destroyed, however there are many building that haven’t made the cut yet, mainly due to a lack of confidence by investors.

The area near the bridge however has been completely rebuilt and we were assured by a guide we hired that new bridge is indistinguishable from the original.

We spent one night in Mostar which included Andrew having his first meal of Cevapi. We’ve had the ones from Safeway before in Aus, but the real thing was much better. Meat, spices and cheap as chips, always a winner.
