the postcard shot over the Danube, the chain bridge with palace on buda hill

Wow budapest. Our arrival was a bit tainted because we had been rejected from our hostel in bratislava and the need to catch a late train, but when we woke up in the morning and started walking around budapest we were excited to be here! the buildings are just beautiful. Very old and architecturally magnificent around every corner.. and the danube and its lovely bridges certainly made for some picturesque shots.

Budapest is split in to two parts by the danube, buda and pest. We stayed on the pest side (thats where the action is) and visited the hilly buda side on a hop on hop off bus tour. The view from the top of the buda hill was amazing.. check out the pics!

We were in budapest for a total of six nights (including a side trip to Eger for a night).

the danube very picturesque
We went through three hostels in those 6 nights and they were all pretty average. Think we just weren't on the ball for accomodation, but the city made up for it anway. The highlights were the palace and castle walls on top of the buda side.. the massive amount of museums. We visited the terror museum which focussed on the nazi and communist occupations of budapest.. very eye opening. But we mostly just enjoyed walking around the streets admiring the architecture. The parliament building was amazing.. although after two attempts we decided impossible to actually get into. We also visited the baths.. some very hot ones and some much cooler.. the most exciting was a big spa bath that turned into a whirl pool, also lots of people in little togs, always a good thing. Also a picnic in the park on the last day to finish off the bulls blood from Eger certainly was a winner.

Next stop Slovenia, a small country supposedly packed with excitement.
