Back to Budapest
May 19, 2009
The drive back to Budapest from Prague took about 6 hours and was pretty uneventful. We passed through Slovakia and saw a lot of the countryside of Northern Hungary. There's not much to write about the countryside, all we could see from the highway were some flat plains and a few scattered trees and foliage. We stopped a little roadside cafe about an hour away from the city. It had a tremendous view of a smaller very socialist looking city. We tried to order a salad but salads aren't big things in Hungary. Instead we got a lot of pickled vegetables, peppers and cucumbers, and some tomatoes. Not exactly what we expected, but pretty good and satisfying none the less. We washed that down with a few pints of beer.
When we got back into Budapest, it was late afternoon. We decided to go back to Franz Listz square and have dinner and more drinks. We ended up at Cafe Karma. We really loved this outdoor cafe. Even for a Tuesday night, the cafe was in full effect. There were plenty of people milling about having good conversation, decent food and of course, plenty of drinks. The food here is very eclectic. It's a combination of Asian foods from Indian to Thai to Chinese. If Asian food is what you want, this is the place. The food was good but the ambience was the selling point for this restaurant. We spent a good part of the evening sitting outside of the cafe and enjoying the company of our friends.
After dinner we walked up and down the square admiring all the activity and all the people. We ended up in a night market and bought more provisions for the night. Most of the day was spent traveling so, at this point we decided to go back home and get some much deserved rest.
