Trip to Los Cabos B.C.S. México

Los Cabos a very beautiful Mexican beach destination is situated on the southern tip of México's Baja California peninsula. This is made of two little towns: Cabo San Lucas located on the East, and San José del Cabo (main municipality) on the West and a resort touristic corridor as well aprox. 36 km. long.

So that, the beaches of  San José and the corridor are part of "Sea the Cortez" in contrast to those of  Cabo San Lucas where is the place you can find a very famous arch where the land ends and so does "Sea the Cortez" and Pacific ocean just meets this sea.

Los Cabos, offers travelers a very special and unique viewing of dramatic desert, beautiful blue waters and white sand beaches making it a perfect place for enjoying and spending  a great time with the family, or in special occasions such as honeymoons, for mature travelers, golfers, eco tourists or sightseers.

  

One of the most interesting and important attractions to visit there, would be its famous arch in Cabo San Lucas, which is a very special rock formation well known as the land's end the furthest you can go from the border to the South in Baja California which is the place  Pacific ocean meets the Sea of Cortez and quite possible you will see surroundings here the sea lion colony and the pelican rocks.

This trip started with our flying by interjet air company which offered  a good service, price and punctuality. We arrived at San José del Cabo airport on time. The place was crowded mostly of travelers coming from Canada and USA. As a matter of fact  this surprised me a litttle because of the fact, we were traveling last days of May, and  first days of June.

So, we all in México had  barely started to recover of swine flu and it had been a hard time for tourism industry in México in  the May month.

Anyway, I guess, may be we were very lucky of this new sort of refresh wave of visitors. The thing was we knew our best choice to move there and to know surroundings, was to rent a car. So, after picking up our baggage we went directly and asked for the prices to the car rental stands. We could get a very nice one for a cheap price. Then, in our way to the hotel, that lasted around one hour from the airport, we stopped by, a restaurant and had our dinner. The restaurant "Mazatlan"was good but nothing special. Finally, one hour later we got  to our hotel "Pueblo Bonito".

We were a little tired.

So, that day and the next one, we just  spended our time reading, and resting at our hotel. This hotel has a Mexican-Spanish style and is situated on a very quiet hill in Cabo San Lucas. Therefore, we had a very beautiful sightseeing from our room to the beach and surroundings. Unfortunately, the beach here is a little dangerous  for swimming. So, if you want to go to the beach and swim and you do not have a car, the hotel provides you a free shuttle bus which leaves each hour during the day to "Pueblo Bonito Rose"  another hotel ( from same owner's resort) situated in the principal beach of Cabo San Lucas.

The comfort and facilities of this hotel in general were excellent.

Something very nice was the fact the swimming pools are opened 24 hours per day. I enjoyed a lot  the sky pool which is at top of the hotel with this extraordinary view to the ocean. Sunsets  from there are just spectacular.

In our third day, we were invited to know another resort. After that we got free tickets for visiting the famous arch on a boat, having free beverages and food. So, we had a really great time, and enjoyed a lot the sunset. During our way on the boat. We watched  the sea lions, the pelicans flying around and even a lonely dolphing near the boat as well.

A brief parenthesis. Even though, we did not go there, from January to March,  is one of the best suggested times from the year, for going  to "the gray whale watching".

So there are several  choices  for going and  between these we can go and take a boat to "ojo de liebre" and "San Ignacio" lagoons both located in a desert biosphere. The others are "El estero de la Soledad" in Puerto Adolfo Lopez Mateos and Puerto San Carlos in bahia La Magdalena located around 3 or 4 hours driving from La Paz city. 

Next day, we went to La paz city the capital of Baja California Sur this took us about two hours driving  our car to get there. The scenery during our way was great. So, in one side we had the blue sea and a desert, hot, arid, cactus pads on the other. Before getting  to La Paz we stopped by a little town called "Todos Santos". A very little town which has several art galleries where artists from USA and México show and sell their art.

We made a quick visit to "Hotel California" a famous place in town. After having breakfast we continued our way to La Paz city, an interesting place as well for fishing, snorkeling, or for scuba diving lovers.

We got to La paz  in the afternoon. The day was very beautiful, and sunny. We decided to make our walk around the shore in "El malecon" which has been renewed recently, this is an ideal place for have a nice walking, and  admire the sea of Cortez. Unfortunately the weather was very hot so we changed our mind and decided to stay away from the sun. Then we went to visit the malls around. After that, we asked for a good place to try seafood we decided to have our dinner in one of the restaurants situated in el malecon, the food was good.

Then we made our way back to our hotel and enjoyed to see the sunset with all of this desert and sea nature combination.

An extra tourism information, is the fact, that all of this part from México, has a remarkable importance because of its abundance of marine and coastal fauna. So that, has been called "the marlin capital of the world" and very recently the Cousteau society has announced the establishment of a new marine observatory bearing the name of Jacques Costeau, which will contribute to create a better management of the seas and coastlines. México and France governments have launched México's first marine observatory on the edge of one of the world's most diverse ocean ecosystems the sea of Cortez in La Paz city. 

The last two days we spended our time in Los Cabos and one of these days, we visited a public beach called "Chileno's bay" this is  really worth it, very beautiful, quiet, clean.

 I really recommend to go to this beach if you like a quieter beach, and want to enjoy a nice day on the beach.

We went  just two times in the night to take a few drinks. Now I just mention something about this issue very briefly. In my personal opinion, night life in Los Cabos, does not have so many choices, as other beach destinations do. Anyway, the first time we went to "Cabo wabo" a bar with music in live. The place seemed to me nothing special. The second time we went to another place that I can not remember the name located in front of the principal mall of  la marina in Cabo San Lucas, which was better but too much noisy, so if you are in the mood of having fun, some drinks, singing, or even dancing this is ok.

Finally it was time  for us, to say good bye to Los Cabos. In my personal opinion, I do recommend you, this place if you want to take a break of crowded beaches, and wish to know something different and  to visit a special place for discover all this nature beauty, I have  previously mentioned . So, the bad one in my opinion, is that Los Cabos is may be one of the most expensive destinations from Mexico. Then, even though you can find as everywhere all over the world, cheap, and nice places to spend your time there, you have to be very careful and ask first at all, you make your choices for most things such as accomodation, food etc.
