Cool glass building next door to the Hilton
Brussels, was my first trip to somewhere outside of the United States. And it was quite a trip. An hour off of the plane, its 8am and we decide to walk around town to avoid the jet lag. 5 hours later, a clash with the titans at a cafe where no one spoke english, conversing with a drunk guy who only spoke spanish and wanted to assassinate president bush, turning down hilarious solicitations from transvestite hookers at 10am right around the corner from the hotel, getting lost and walking in circles for an hour, stumbling on an awesome flea market that seemed to be a local spot, having a great conversation with two beautiful local women, that only spoke french, and me not understanding a word they were saying, and us finally making it back to the hotel feeling a bit like dorthy making it back to kansas.
Cool glass building with cool lighting effects
After a day like that, Brussels did not disappoint. It was surprisingly a pretty small city, though. We stayed at the Hilton at rogier place. The breakfast was nothing special and the rooms were super small, but the location was perfect. Right downtown, walking distance to the metro, the city2 mall, the grand place, and of course my favorite "Pitta Alley". Pitta Alley, near the Grand Place, is an alley of greek Mediterranean restaurants that pretty much stayed open all night long. So the Alley became our late night hang out as it was one of the few places that stayed open pass 3am and offer cheap food. And our daily food of choice was their giant pittas. I was only there for two weeks, but I lucked up and was able to come back for a second time two months later.
