Working in Islamabad
May 24, 2009
I spent a month working in Islamabad. For our own safety, we prohibited from going out into town. So it was pretty much working and hanging out at our house. First Impressions, Islamabad didn't appear dangerous. They seemed like normal people going about there normal lives. It wasn't a war zone or anything like that. There was only one explosion while I was there. I did get a chance to chat with some of the locals about the situation going on in northern Pakistan. Very interesting hearing local opinions and perspectives. Most locals are fine with westerners and are pretty embarrassed by the activities of terrorist groups. The city was a planned city, So the civil infrastructure was much better than I expected for a third world country. The roads were smooth and clean everyday. Electricity would go out a few times a day(Which is normal for a third world country). There is a view of some nice small mountains that are perfect for hiking. I dig the fact that it was just a normal city, with normal people going about their daily lives. According to the news, you would think Pakistan was hell on earth. The major city for Pakistan is Karachi, which where I am now. I will be
back in Islamabad after Karachi. Here a few photos I snapped in
Islamabad, not very interesting at first sight. I will snap some more photos when I go back.
