Today we opted for a leisurely day of sightseeing. We bought tickets on the first open top bus we saw and hopped on board. It was raining mildly but we headed upstairs anyway reminding Vee and Tess of fun times in NYC.
The first stop we ventured off the bus was Arlington Cemetery. What a sobering, awesome stop it was. And the precision of the changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is difficult to describe and really should be experienced in person. Walking back down the hill I had the opportunity to chat a bit with a WWII veteran. He had spent his time in the Pacific Theater and it sounded like he would have many tales to share.
Next we grabbed a quick lunch and strolled around the Lincoln, Vietnam, and Korean War Memorials, followed by a stop at the National Gallery. We had barely scratched the surface of sights and experiences available in DC but were happy to return to the hotel for the evening wine receipt ion and to reflect on all we saw today.
Tomorrow Skip will be leaving us for her train journey and Tess an Vee will meet up with The Guys.
