Galesburg Illinois to Caledonia Minnesota

We continued to take the back roads, and followed the Mississippi river up along hwy 84. Then we took highway 20 and passed through the small towns in northern Illinois where the Grey Ghost’s family roots go back. Small towns like Elizabeth and Stockton have good memories for the Grey Ghost, and were fun for us all to learn about.
Vee introduced us to frozen custard in Wisconsin at a restaurant chain called Culvers. In addition to their famous frozen custard, they are also famous for Butter Burgers, which feature only Wisconsin cheese. Don’t worry, a Butter Burger is not a brick of butter between bread, but rather refers to the way they butter the bun before they toast it.
We crossed the Mississippi river again at La Crosse, Wisconsin late in the afternoon, and found a place to stay in a small town called Caledonia in Minnesota. We are still avoiding the storms that are happening all across the country, but there is another storm front that is pushing through the Pacific Northwest and heading our way.
