The ferry terminal in Lumut

The journey to Pangkor Island takes about 4 hours north from Kuala Lumpur via the North South Highway. (Take the exit at Bidor and it’s on the trunk road after that). Pangkor Island is situated in the state of Perak and you’ll have to get a ferry from the little town of Lumut  (which means moss! ).

There are several car parks which charge from RM 3 to RM 10 per day near the jetty terminal.

Ferry tickets can be purchased at the terminal, and if you find that you have missed the ferry, its quite pleasant to have a drink at the nearby stalls while waiting for the next  - there is even a KFC about 300 metres from the jetty.

The ferry ride is RM 10 for a return trip and takes about 45 minutes.

The ferry leaves every 30 minutes and it operates from 0645 till 2030 and you’ll have the choice of taking the Mesra or Duta ferry.

On a sunny day, sitting on the upper deck would be quite fun for photographers.

Remember to get off at the second stop to get to the Pangkor town center though -  the first stop is at a little fishing village which is far from hotels and you’ll have to walk or get a minivan if you’ve made this mistake.

Alternatively you may fly to Pangkor from KL’s Subang airport on Berjaya Air which flies 4 times weekly - it takes only 45mins. If you want to get a bus from Kuala Lumpur, take a bus from the Puduraya Bus terminal (near Chinatown) for around RM 27 to Lumut, then catch the ferry to the island.
