Meeting with Kelvin in Amsterdam
4 days i got a email from Kelvin, he would come to Amsterdam on friday and he asked me if i could show him Amsterdam.
Kelvin is born in Singapore but he works in Jersey (UK).
He arrived in Amsterdam on friday-morning, so we could meet at 13:00 at the Dam.
I took the train from Rijssen to Amsterdam Centraal and after a walk from 10 minutes i arrived at the Dam.
I could not find Kelvin because everybody was moonwalking and crying about Michael Jackson at the Dam so i called him and we met at the stone lion near the Dam.
While we where sitting on the Dam, Kelvin told me about his life in Singapore and the culture.
I already knew a little bit about Singapore because my causin works and lives there, and the cars are very expensive in Singapore!
I showed him my list with things about what to do and what to see in Amsterdam, like the Anne frank-house, Amsterdam Dungeon,Vondelpark,Museumsquare, the 9 streets, the Kalverstreet etc.
..At first i showed him the red-light destrict and i told him about why it's legalised, and i tried to tell him why smoking is legal in Holland but i don't have a clear explanation, i just don't know why.. that's our strange law.
He was confused about the fact that everything what's very illegal in his country, is legal in Holland.
I think it's good because it prevents a lot of organised crime because the most things are legal and it's good for the tourism and good for the economics in Amsterdam.
While we walked trough the streets in Amsterdam i told him a bit history about the history of Amsterdam and why the houses lean forward and why the most houses have a big hook on their rooftop.
But it was a very hot day so we took place at the terrace of the Grasshopper.
I always like the Grasshopper because i like the atmosphere and the staff is realy nice :)
I ordered a orange juice for Kelvin and a Cola for me.
While we enjoyed our drinks and the nice weather a guy from England jumped in to the canal haha!
He was very very lucky that he didn't jumped on some bikes in the water! he came out safely but how crazy can you be? haha
After our drinks i wanted to show Kelvin the Vondelpark and the Museumsquare.
We could go by tram but the weather was nice and you see more things when you walk.
It was a long distance walk because i wanted to show him the most of the centre of Amsterdam and after a walk of 40 minutes we arrived at the Museumsquare.
Our feets where burning and i started to get sweaty so we stopped at the pond at the Museumplein to have our feets in the water.
I can't tell you how nice that was!!! it was sóóó hot!
After we cooled off we walked to the Vondelpark.
It was a beautifull day in the Vondelpark! everybody was sitting in the grass, cycling, skating, reading, and it was so quiet :)
We took place on a big rock next to the pond and we enjoyed our drinks i took with me and we watched the ducks swimming.
But there was one very mean and cruel duck who tried to steal the girlfriend from another duck, fortunally the duck was smart and he flew away to another pond with his girlfriend :D
After a few minutes a confused homeless with a drum passed by and he started to talk bullshit to everybody and started to scream without a reason, it was so hilarious!!
After a few minutes he screamed to his drum and then he got mad and he smashed his drums with full power to the bridge in the Vondelpark and everybody was lauching!! it was sóóó funny to see that!
It was so good to walk trough the park and see all those hundreds of students drinking and bbqing in the park :)
We where hungry so we walked with a shortcut to the Damrak.
We went to "Manneken Pis" that's the best cafetaria in the Netherlands and they win every year the new award!
We had such a big portion of fries, we didn't eated it all haha!
After our fries Kelvin told me that a friend of him recommended him to eat a space-cake haha
So we went to the Nieuwmarket to coffeeshop "Rock-it" and i bought him a space cake with chocolate taste.
He took place on the terrace of the coffeeshop and watched people in the streets while Kelvin was eating his cake :)
We left the shop and i wanted to show him one of my favorite pubs in Amsterdam: The Old Sailor bar.
Everytime when iam in Amsterdam i visit this pub. (They serve more then 100.000 beers a year!)
The staff is realy nice and it full with old sailor decorations.
It was not crowdy so we took place at the bar.
I ordered 2 Heinekens and we started to talk about the things Kelvin could do the next 2 days.
To be honoust, there was not mutch more exiting to see in Amsterdam, i showed him allmost everything in 8 hours time hahaha!!
It was 21:30 and i must get my train back to the eastern part of Holland...
Realy wanted to stay with Kelvin at the pub but i needed to run to get my train!
We sayd goodbye and we thanked each other for the nice day :)
I run to the railwaystation and i arrived 2 hours later in the east of Holland.
I had a realy good day, Kelvin is a very nice person to talk to and lauch with :D
I realy hope he will come back one time, Kelvin you always stay welcome :)
