a nice double-room in Central London just for myself :)
Three more weeks and I will graduate from University. I'll be officially ready to conquer the world of scientific research. Well, at least I will finally get payed for the same job that I have been already doing for over a year now without getting payed. So only one more exam, handing in my thesis and a new chapter of my life is about to start.
I have always been a free spirit and just love to explore new cultures - of course traveling is a great way to do that but really living in a country is a totally different level, which is why I so far took every chance possible to live abroad. Unfortunately my carreer choice is narrowing the possibilities down quite a bit and my dream of living in South America for at least 6 month will now be difficult to realise but hey .

.. at least I have a job I truely enjoy :) So, doing a PhD is just another opportunity and on my list were Italy, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands and England - which by far was my top choice just because working at the London Research Institute of Cancer Research UK has been a dream for some years.
So I applied last November and was invited for interviews in January. What followed were three pretty tough days of interviews, meeting some really cool people and it was done: I made my dream come true :) In September I will start working for Cancer Research UK!!! Apart from the great project I will be working on I am very happy about a decent salary and the great location of the institute. And of course my colleagues that seem to be oh sooooo nice. But you will read about them in detail later.

After the interviews I thought, well hey, the flight is payed for, why not just stay a couple of days longer and visit two of my friends in Oxford. Turned out to be a great idea!! We had an awesome time! The bad thing I realized again when traveling in the UK is that (sorry, now offense) that (some) British are not the nicest or at least the men are not the greatest gentlemen on this planet :P I think it never happened to me in any other country that so many men just walked by a poor girl that is seriously fighting to carry her luggage up the stairs of the tube station. They even were turning around curiously watching whether I will manage .... hahahaha... well at least I prooved that I am capable.
Only real downside of the whole trip was the snow chaos on my way back home. Uff, I really was stuck at Heathrow Airport and rebooked my flight a trillion times. Luckily the busses to Oxford were still runing so I didn't have to sleep at the airport like so many other. Two days and a billion calls to British Airways later and totally exhausted I arrived at home. But with the job of my dreams in my hand even that couldn't wipe the smile of my face. London, be aware, I am coming!!!!!!
