Our Return Visit to Montreal In November 2007 Like its so much we came back for more.

Montreal 2007 - our Return to Montreal, Quebec, Canada

WestJet our airline to Montreal
Good day all of you fellow Travbuddies. I am making another blog here about my 2nd trip to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. We like it so much last year, we have returned.

The plan for this trip was taking a whole week about 7 days.
Arriving into Montreal on for a Friday and Saturday, main reason was to go see hockey. The Saturday's game was between Montreal Canadiens vs Toronto Maple Leafs. As well it was broadcast on TV as well, and good rink side seats. That was our main goal.

Then on Sunday, take train to Quebec City for just a day.

Then on Monday Return back to Montreal by VIA rail to watch another hockey game of Montreal Canadiens vs Buffalo Sabres.

Then on Tuesday go to Ottawa for about 2 nights and catch a game between Ottawa Senators vs Toronto Maple Leafs.

So that is the outline. Our time in Quebec City and Ottawa are written as seperate blogs on my profile so feel free to read up on them.

Anyways here is my story.:::::::::::::

It is Friday November 2nd on this day and we are going to Montreal to catch a few hockey games. Its gonna be quite exciting as I have rinkside seats on 2nd row. The best on the arena at Bell Centre. I arrive at the airport in Thunder Bay and check in with my flight with WestJet to get to Montreal. I am supposed to be traveling with another coworker Josh today, he is not at airport still. It is 6am and our flight is at 7am, which is odd since he was excited to get to Montreal.

Anyhow, I don't worry and make my way through security and then to waiting room in departure lounge.
City Hall
So I am waiting and now its almost 630am and no sign of Josh and plane is about to start boarding. So i call his house on my phone and no one answers. I call his other address and no one answers there as well, Strange.
Finally at 640am, He finally arrives into the departure lounge, saying he felt like proscastinating today, how strange?
Anyhow Its now time to board our WestJet Flight to Montreal.
We Flight from Thunder Bay to Toronto for a short lay over there and then change planes, then on to Montreal.

Finally we land in Montreal and grab our luggage and get our taxi and take it to downtown Montreal.
We are staying at the Residence Inn Downtown, got an amazing deal. The hotel is like an apartment, we have 3 beds and a balconey and theres a full kitchentte as well with fridge, microwave and stove and an oven.

To let you all know we are also going to Meet up with another travel buddy. Luke who is another coworker, got a cheap flight the day before and stayed over night in Toronto on a stand by flight with Air Canada. He is going to join us later that morning in Montreal.

We check in to the hotel and then make our way down to Bishop St and go for lunch at Mckibbins Pub, its almost noon by now. The weather is crisp but really sunny today, looks like going to be a good day.
The food is great again at the Mckibbins, here I order a Club Sandwich and a Guinness and its amazing great. The service was awesome and it was worth coming back to.
Just then my cell phone rings and its Luke, he has arrived and is on his way to hotel.
We head back to hotel, after paying for food, and meet Luke at hotel.

We check in bags at the room and head off again onto the Metro.

We head out for some sight seeing and go to places we missed out last year in Montreal. We go to the Olympic Stadium area.
We go up the Olympic tower here for a view of the city, its an amazing view and you can see as far as the eye can go.
ITs a great view and I highly recommend everyone to check it out when your in Montreal.

Afterward we walk around the area to a park then make it to the Insectarium which is a museum of all bugs from beetles, to butterflys and many other exotic bugs from around the world.
It is very amazing and quite good and I took many photos. The best part is the live ant farm in the building.  There were all of these trees and hills with live red ants.
There were hundreds of them building up a palace or something of leaves. Very amazing.

From here, we were thinking of venturing to the other side of the river and go have something to eat at Hooters Montreal.
So we try to get there by taking the Metro to one station, then transfer over to another train. Then walk for 10 minutes to a bus station only to find out we had the wrong passes to board the bus to get where we wanted to go.
So we went back to hotel and vegged for awhile and figure out the next plan of action.

We then decide its time for dinner and head off to Bishop street again and go down and find a pub for dinner. We ended up the  Irish Embassy Pub and Grill. Here the food was amazing, I have a fish and chips and Guinness and its amazing.
The place is very busy with many many people as it must be a good place to go to.

Afterward, we go back to hotel and chill, then decided on evening. This evening we go for walking up St Catherine Street and check out the scene. Luke decides he wants to see some Boobies so we go and head to one of the fine Adult Entertainment Establishments there, to see bobbies.
We go and try what we think is a new place from last year and it ends up being same place as last year. All well, inside the beer was over priced, for 4 it was like 50 bucks for a 6 beer. So since we were there, had to experience some personal entertainment. The talent that night was quite good and I wished it was that good in Thunder Bay, but no.

Anyhow, after that bar we decided that we spent too much money tonight and its best to call it a night. We go back to the hotel and call it a night.

Tomorrow is a big day, as we have the big game on the next day. So stay tuned for next blog of Saturday in Montreal.

A great Stay for Hockey in Montreal
Residence Inn by Marriott - Montreal Downtown is located at 2045, Peel Street
Montreal (Quebec) Canada, H3A 1T6.

This is a great hotel located in downtown Montreal. You are very close to the Crescent, Bishop and ST Catherine st. As well the Bell Centre is 10 minute walk if your in for an event.

The hotel has a morning breakfast included, which was great, eggs, bacon and coffee and pancakes were a bit sticky but great.

Our room was like an apartment. Had 3 beds, so Luke was able to sleep in a real bed, not a cot. Very clean and had a small kitchen with fridge, stove and microwave, very awesome. This hotel offers a convenient location to the university, restaurants, shopping and to public transportation. The staff was most helpful and friendly. The breakfast that was served offered a wide variety of choices and the food was excellent. Considering that the hotel was in the central part of the city, we noticed how quiet the street became at night. We had a very pleasant stay, and intend to stay there again, when we return to Montreal.”

I would highly recommend this hotel to many people. If your in for business or for wanting to see a Hockey game, stay here, its a good value for your dollar and location is tops.

A great place with amazing food and cute waitresses
During our week long trip to Montreal to attend a hockey game, we tried many different restaurants and only 2 restaurants are truly memorable. Dundee's being the very one we just love and keep going back for lunch and dinner and supper! Their soup, escargot, the bread, the steak, salad (oh so FRESH!), the halibut, the beers, the ambience, the cute waitresses, ... and all this come at a very reasonable price for the experience!! wasn't expecting very much as far as food selection and quality goes since Dundees is a bar and grill, and those types of places tend to play more to the atmosphere and beer selection than to the quality of their food. Well, I was quite surprised when I ordered the pasta with Godfather sauce. I highly recommend this dish because it was absolutely the best sauce I have ever tasted. I wanted to go back again just to order that dish but we did not have time, so I will be sure to stop there during my next visit to Montreal.

I am salivating just writing about them. I wish I were in Montreal right now!!!!!!!!!!

The martinis here are totally amazing and great. This was one of the nicest bars we found in Montreal. The place has a great atmosphere & it's in a great location. The bartender was quick w/ drinks & lots of fun.

Thumbs up to the waitress named Britney, totally amazing.

A great Place to Eat after the Game or any time
Irish Embassy Pub is located on Bishop St.
It was an amazing place, the seating was great and many people come here. It is an authentic Irish pub and offers a wide variety of food.

We came to this pub on last trip in Montreal, 3 of us and decided to try something new. I order fish and chips. I am a big fan of 2 of their staple Irish dishes:
the Irish Stew & the the Fish & Chips.

The Fish & Chips is a nice big crispy piece of breaded fish with a good tartar sauce. The Irish Stew not only smells heavenly, it has the most tender pieces of lamb marinating in a rich stew with yummy veggies.
One waitress taking care of almost 30 people was a little challenging, so there were a few bumps in the service. She did have some assistance, with 2 waiters helping bring out the food.
It was good meal overall, with Guiness to wash it down.
Luke was a bit unhappy with is burger, but then again he doesn't eat meat though, he just likes eating baked beans.

Overall I recommend this place to anyone, who likes the highlife of Montreal. Go here!
A great place for drinks and food
A Famous Franchise in Montreal
A famous Franchise in Montreal.

Hard Rock Cafe is located on Crescent Street. Is a good place to go for food. It has the typical Hollywood memorial stuff inside. Its not so much of Quebec Culture, but good for those who want an escape into pop culture.

The food we had here was your typical burger and fries. It was good, but the price was kinda high for what your getting. The drinks were good as well, but again a little pricey for what your getting.he architecture of this building is impressive and was maintained in the design of this Hard Rock. It is beautiful to look at inside and out. The bay windows upstairs and down at the bar give you a wonderful view of Rue Crescent in both This HR is in a good location - on a street with tons of other restaurants and art gallaries and shopping. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Good place to check out, but should not be your priority. Overall I recommend to almost everyone. Come and enjoy the burgers. PS watch out for people wearing sweat pants in public.

Home Place of the Montreal Canadiens.
When in Montreal, one must go for a game to see the Montreal Canadiens, play home at the Bell Centre.
Montreal people love hockey and the Canadiens. No matter what time of the week it is, the arena is going to be sold out if there is a hockey game.

It was one of the best arenas I have been in. Regardless of where your sitting, you can see the ice really well, even in nosebleed section.

The concessions are located well and offer a big selection of amazing snacks. The hot dogs were really yummy. Just watch out not to spill mustard onto your white sweat pants.

This place would be a good place to see a concert or other event. The only thing I seen in Bell has been hockey. Hockey is the best.

Overall, when in Montreal, go see the Canadiens play, even if you don't like hockey.
