Santa Rosa Island

The second day of work was on a Saturday. We started at 6 AM, but we were done by noon. That left the rest of the weekend for a mini-vacation (not to mention company paid!). I drove down the coast of the panhandle on 98 going through beach towns like Navarre, Fort Walton Beach, Destin, and Miramar. Traffic wasn't bad except in Fort Walton Beach. On the way back, I stopped at the "Miracle Strip". This is the eastern most portion of Santa Rosa Island located east of Fort Walton Beach and west of Destin. A very popular beach/fishing/boating area is located right at the beginning of the bridge that leaves Santa Rosa Island for Destin. This area is very crowded, but the rest of the Miracle Strip is full of empty long and wide white sand beaches. The dunes look like they are covered in snow. The water was warm and comfortable though there was a lot of sea vegetation that stuck to my swim trunks. There was a kite boarder being filmed that kept going back and forth down the shoreline riding in one direction and walking back the other direction to do it again. It looked tiring just to walk through the sand fighting to keep the kite off the ground.
