A girlie's encounter of a third degree!
It's Friday and Warsaw is frenzied in preparation of yet another busy weekend. The weather is not very friendly towards a visitor who has only brought with her summery dresses (mostly white), 6 inch strappy sandals, T-shirts and... just one pairs of jeans! Thank goodness there are a few very large shopping malls where I could buy some decent clothes and by now I think I have gone over the silly hold baggage allowance. I mean, how are we, women, meant to pack so light and to limit ourselves to just 15 kg?
So anyway, as I had to extend my stay by a few more days, its raining hard and my friend Barbara has decided to take me out to lunch and beat the boredom out of the day. The lunch extended into a visit into Warsaw's old town and I promised myself I will return to the nicest part of town.
Coming back late to Stara Milowa (apparently meaning Old Love) - a nice neighbourhood on the outskirts of Warsaw, I was startled to discover that my hosts are not at home and I had forgotten both my mobile and and my keys indoors. I looked expectantly at Barbara, who is looking at me guiltily whilst she confesses that she too, has forgotten her phone.
Talk about brain dead! Never mind, I thought, jumping a fence... a doddle!
I put my foot on the metal gate, hoisted myself over and... my host's two friendly mutts, ominously named Magnus and Remus, appeared silently behind me just as I was about to step onto the ground, inside the gate. The dogs were not wearing their friendliest smile and I froze for a moment, thinking quickly which is the best course of action: jump the back the gate or face the hounds from hell?
The decision was made for me as just that moment a Police car was slowly driving past the house and I had decided I would rather bargain my way out of the dogs fangs than out of a jail!
But no, that was not the case. .. because I suddenly found out that I have a new fan club! Need I tell you more?
It suffice to say that I have never covered ground so fast, even in my heyday as an athlete - and that I escaped with a few scratches and bruises...
Thankfully, the garage door was open so I could make my entry via the back door but talk about a close shave... I am glad I haven't broken my ankle in my high heels!
Today is a glorious day for a change, I am dying to get into the garden and play with Stas, my friend's two year old son but I have both Remus and Magnus, looking at me wistfully as I venture out to the terrace.
On second thoughts, no, I am no 007 at all. But would you be, with those two huge dogs? I' ll let you judge by the pics!
But not everyone had dogs as their guardians; their neighbour has a deer.
.. she is very friendly and looks like she came right out of "Bamby"________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
PS It looks like I am heading again for Warsaw soon- if you enjoyed reading about my encounters with the overly friendly dogs- uh-oh! I am not looking forward to meeting them. Any tips, anyone? Maybe buy them a lady (dog)friend would help?
;-) ;-) ;-)
