Dolphin leaping: bad picture but you can see it and others in the water

David and I sat out on the lanai today and watched the waves and surf.  It was really interesting seeing the schools of bright yellow fish in huge groups. We could see small black crabs crawling around on the black lava directly below us.  We even had a little bird fly into the living room and pose on the chair cushion while David took it's picture then it flew out and away.   What a little ham.   The morning was tranquil and overcast.  Every once in a while the sun would come out so we could see into the water better.... We loved seeing it.  We had coffee and breakfast and sat out relaxing.

A boat had moored about a block from us.

little bird in the house...
Suddenly we saw something in the water.  We thought they were fishermen and pulling in a marlin... then we saw a bunch of fins sticking out of the water... yikes...Oh my Gosh!! sharks....... We ran and got the binoculars.... we were shocked to see that they seemed to be teeming around a person swimming in the water.   The person was making no move to get onto the boat.  Then the fish began jumping and leaping around!  Dolphins!  They moved from the boat towards us until they were about 150 feet away from us.  They continued leaping sometimes in pairs and spinning on their tails.... it was really exciting to see.   We tried to get a count but could only count 30 or so....  Then they just swam away towards the open ocean.... I tried to get pictures but I seemed to be clicking too late....  but at least I saw it!  The person by the boat got back on and they drove away.
David at the Flea Market
What a fun experience it must have been for them to be so close to dolphins in their natural habitat.  It was certainly a thrill for David and I.

In the afternoon we ran to Costco to get supplies.    We are trying to cut costs by eating at the condo....  We found quite a few Hawaiian foods and bought them.  A nice lady helped us select the brands that were best and told us the proper cooking times.  She even found us again and mentioned the Hawaiian bread.   Another perfect example of the friendly locals.  We stopped at the downtown farmers market (or is it a flea market?....) and bought some papaya, dragon fruit and small local bananas.  We'll eat them for dinner and breakfast tomorrow.  I really enjoyed looking at the tropical flowers and the bouquets one talented lady did.

Flower bouquets in the flea market
She gave me permission to photograph them... very nice of her.  They were only $25.00 and were made of different types of tropical flowers.  I recognize them but don't know their names.  We didn't hurry out......We did a little shopping and got a few gifts.

Dinner was great:  huge steaks, Hawaiian bread, papaya, bananas, dragon fruit and of course, margaritas.   We watched the sun set and felt happy to be alive!
